As I continue to break down the designs showcased in my Newest Items page I certainly cannot forget the designs that have become the backbone of my ever growing collection. Yes, the ones designed for geeks, by a geek, and often inspired through conversation with other geeks.

What is a Geek?

The definition seems to vary depending on who you ask and I certainly can't make a claim on the definitive answer, but I am willing to voice an opinion. As far as I'm concerned, a geek is someone who takes an unusual amount of interest in something that tends to be under appreciated by most everyone else. Memorize the stats for your favorite football team and you're a sports fan. Study the blueprints for the Enterprise and you're a geek. Of course you have to admit that is pretty darn geeky.

Cthulhu In A Suit

One day I just felt like drawing Cthulhu in a suit, sitting by the fireplace. Don't ask for an explanation. By now you should know not to expect those. I even went so far as to model and rig him in Maya.

I liked the idea of Cthulhu wearing a suit that I decided to model and rig him in Maya. I'm quite happy with the results, considering how few polygons I made him with. There's a bit in the middle where I rendered him with red and cyan anaglyph so you may want to dig up some old 3D glasses, if you've got them.

Cthulhu Yin-Yang

A pair of Cthulhu heads attempting to recreate the Yin-Yang symbol. I think they're having a little trouble keeping their tentacles where they belong, though.

Drudgeon

Yes. If there were such a thing as a drudgeon, that is what we would be to them. For all the unappreciated IT people out there. The back is stained from people resting coffee mugs while you work.

Cthulhumas Ornaments

Two ornaments for your Cthulhumas Tree. One has Cthulhu with a Santa hat and couple little Elder Sign snowflakes in the background and the other focuses on just the snowflakes.

Fickle Pirate

Yarr, September 19th, 2008, Talk Like a Pirate Day, it were. I was chattin' in Pirate Speak with a friend of mine when, for reasons I no longer recall, I spoke, "I be fickle." At that moment I saw this here fickle pirate in me head and knew I had to draw it.

Tech Support Penguin

I saw him in a smudge on a wall one day. A half annoyed, half depressed penguin in a short sleeved shirt and necktie sitting on his butt and glaring. For some reason, he just looked like he belonged in Tech Support, dealing with whatever crap angry, confused customers could throw at him.

And for those of you into 3D animation, he's also available for sale in obj and fbx formats on Turbo Squid.

Pirate On A Carousel

Like the name says, it's a Pirate riding on a carousel. Yarr? It was part of a series including Viking on a Roller Coaster, Ninjas in Bumper Cars, and Death In A Tea Cup. I wanted to make Zombies on a Ferris Wheel, too, but the angles never worked out.

I'm no gamer, but I spend enough time on the internet to have heard the old "All your base are belong to us" stuff. If you don't know what it's about, look it up. If you do know what it's about, you and I need to spend more time outside.

iPatch

Heh, it just came to me out of the blue, you know? Once described as "Perfect for your favorite mp3 pirate," but that doesn't actually have anything to do with it when I first thought it up. I just thought a dancing pirate would be funny after seeing all those old iPod commercials from a few years ago. Ironically, some jerk stole this design and was selling it on his own shirts. As a result, this was the first design I had copy written rather than just relying on people's good nature and honesty.
