Rear Projection TV Repair: Common Problems And Maintenance

Rear projection televisions from leading television producers are good quality products that need not give many problems. While most people will not think about rear projection TV repair when they buy a new television, problems are not inevitable just like with any other electronics pieces that we buy. Here are several things you can do to maintain your RPTV.

Rear Projection TV Color Calibration

If you are a great movie enthusiast you may consider having your new television professionally calibrated by a professional. The calibration of a television ensures that you get optimum picture quality form your television. In calibration the trained professional accesses the internal service menu control of the set and measures the image with test equipment. Cnet.com lists the following actions that will take place during a calibration: set grayscale to the NTSC standard of 6,500 Kelvin, improving color accuracy of the entire palette; set contrast, brightness, color, and so on using test patterns designed specifically for each of these controls; optimize over scan and picture position, enabling display of more of the incoming picture; correct "red push" in the color decoder when possible; optimize all DVD input sources using DVD test patterns and HDTV input using an HDTV test-pattern signal generator.

Replacement Lamp for Rear Projection TV

Rear projection televisions will require a replacement of the lamp at one point or another. The higher end models will give you more than 8,000 hours lifespan before you need to replace them. Replacement lamps do not come cheap but there are ways in which you could make them stretch longer.

The best way to replacement a lamp is to go the original store where you bought your set. You can choose to replace it yourself or have someone do it for you. In any case your owner's manual should have instructions on how to do it safely. The good news is if you buy a high end rear projection set like Sony, LG or Samsung you will not have to spend a fortune to replace your lamp unlike for less well known brands. Higher end models also have a longer lamp life as opposed to the cheaper models, most averaging 5,000- 8,000 hours.

Replacment Mirror for Rear Projection TV

Another part that may need replacement with rear projection televisions is the mirror. The mirrors reflect the image onto the screen from the processors. This is because sometimes it gets dirty and this can be solved by cleaning or it may replacement if it breaks. Replacements can be bought from the same television dealer something which is recommended.

How to Change Fluid in Color Guns in Rear Projection TV

All color television have three color guns that gives them the color function while black and white have only one gun. The color guns have a fluid to cool them so they do not overheat. If the fluid is too low or if they break then they need to be replaced. Your television manual will explain where to buy the fluid and how to proceed with the replacement of the fluid. Remember unless you are a television technician you should be careful not to damage your set by opening parts that you do not need to or damaging the guns altogether. If not sure you are better off paying someone to do it for you.
