Not to mention the "Duke Boys" named their Dodge Charger after him.

Jefferson Davis

Jefferson Davis was the first and only President of the Confederate States of America. Davis, a West Point graduate, served bravely during the Mexican-American War as colonel of a Mississippi volunteer regiment. Before becoming President of the C.S.A. Davis served in the U.S. Senate and as Secretary of War during the Peirce Administration. Bonus -- His middle name was Finis, how sweet!

J.E.B. Stuart

James Elwell Brown Stuart was a Confederate General during the American Civil War and was known as "Jeb" to his friends. Stuart was one of the finest cavalry leaders of his time and his skill at reconnaissance made him the "eyes and ears" of General Robert E. Lee. Sadly Stuart was killed in the line of duty at the Battle of Yellow Tavern.

Nathan Bedford Forrest

One of the most unusual figures during the Civil War, Forrest was known for his brutal killer instinct. He enlisted as a Private, then rose to the rank of General and his innovative cavalry tactics dumbfounded the Northern Command. Love him or hate him, he was truly one in a million.

Also, I think Forrest Gump was named after him. So you know... He's got that goin' for him.

George Pickett

George Pickett graduated last in his class from West Point in 1846. He served bravely during the Mexican-American War, earning a brevet promotion to captain for his exploits. Today he is mainly known for "Pickett's Charge", a failed assault where his division was slaughtered during the Battle of Gettysburg. It is rumored that Pickett never forgave General Lee for ordering "Pickett's Charge" and the bloodbath that ensued.

Great lens! One of my Confederate heroes is General Lewis Armistead; I first learned about him as a teenager while watching Gettysburg, and when I tried to find out more about him, I found there was really little available material aside from a 60-page pamphlet. I bought it; can't wait for someone to prepare a really good biography on him. Btw, what's the best biography of Robert E. Lee you've read?

I was looking for a story about confederate war heroes and went to your site to see if I could find one about ordinary soldiers who followed their commanders like General Armistead. There weren't any. Instead, I found your site filled with inspiring thoughts on life. Thank you for them.

I have done quite a few TV shows relating to CIvil War and also a few lenses. People have short memory after 3 generation may be ? Congrads on your Squidoo Trophy. Am going for the next. Self help and mutual help. Thanks.

I am from Pendleton SC and one of our Claims to Fame is that we are the birthplace of Bernard E. Bee who gave Stonewall Jackson his nickname.
