Reborn Baby Dolls

A reborn doll is a vinyl baby doll that has been enhanced to resemble a realistic, lifelike, human baby. The process of creating a reborn doll is referred to as reborning. The technique of reborning has evolved over the past five years with heat set paints and oils being the most used amongst artists.

Completed reborn dolls are popular among adult female collectors, who buy them on eBay or from doll artists (Reborners). Usually, reborns are created in the form of newborn human babies, but they can also be toddlers, preemies, or even baby primates!

The Art of Reborns started many years ago in the USA, but over the past few years has really taken hold on a worldwide circuit. A vinyl form is prepared for paint; the doll is painted to give it life like skin tones and features. Hair is either Rooted or applied in the form of a wig.

As a needle craft, crochet has stood the test of time and, in fact, it has never been more popular than it is today thanks to the resurgence of vintage-style fashions and decorating. Crocheting, similar to knitting, consists of pulling loops of yarn through other loops. Crochet differs from knitting in that only one loop is active at one time (the sole exception being Tunisian crochet), and that a crochet hook is used instead of knitting needles.

Like many other women, I had the blessing of learning how to crochet from my grandmother who made an art out of crochet. To this day, I am not as good as she was at creating the beautiful items she made, and while my creations are not too shabby, I am grateful to have learned how. I have made countless baby blankets, booties, hats and more for many of my women friends and neighbors over the years and in times where everything is machine manufactured, it is nice to be able to keep this handicraft alive.
