Rebuildable cars for sale

You may already know about salvage cars for sale, but do you know what these really are exactly? Salvage cars are vehicles which have been either destroyed, wrecked, crashed or damaged so badly that it is considered to be absolutely useless and not worth repairing - and, consequently, classified as junk. Some dealers take these cars on at junk rates and have them salvaged with some money and effort - hence the name salvage cars. Salvaged cars can also be referred to as totaled cars; a car is classifed as totaled if it is subjected to fire, floods, vandalism, accidents, storms, tornadoes or other natural disasters.

When you buy Salvage cars, watch out for scams

They were referred to as totaled cars because insurance companies repay their values. As soon as they are totaled they have ceased to exist in legal terms, but that does not mean that they can not be repaired. Many repairable salvage cars are repaired, cleaned and fully restored in the form of "salvage cars for sale." Some of these cars can be problem cars. These cars can be purchased at very significant discounts from honest merchants who salvaged cars or at market prices from unscrupulous traders who might try to con buyers by hiding the fact that the car was totaled.

In some but not all U.S. states, if a car was salvaged after reaching the point of no return, the title should contain a comment stating that the car is a salvage car. In many states, however, it is not required and a salvaged car can bear a clean title. Because of these geographical inconsistencies in legislation, many car dealers move totaled cars to states where they can gain a good title for them, and then sell them on without any worries.

Salvage cars for sale: advantages and disadvantages

There are always two sides to a coin, so you cannot say in general that all salvaged cars no good. There are many shortcomings, but there are also some advantages as well:

Advantages of buying a salvaged car

  • Salvage cars can be purchased at throwaway prices. If you find a good, honest car dealer who shows you that a car has been salvaged, and that there could be potential problems in the future, and if you are confident enough, you may end up with a fantastic deal.
  • If you go to an auction of salvage cars with the intention of acquiring one, you can get a salvage car a very reasonable rate.
  • Many salvage cars are repairable and with time and effort can be made as good as new.
  • In some salvage cases - for example, hurricane cars, these cars are classified as totaled by insurance companies based on an approximate basis, because there are too many cars to inspect out of one lot and the company simply does not have time to study each and every car carefully. So there certainly may be a chance that a car labeled as salvage may actually be a reasonable car and can function well when it is then salvaged and sold.
  • If your mechanic can accompany you when you go to find your salvaged car deal and if he certifies all OK, then you can get a good deal.

Disadvantages of buying a salvaged car

  • If you are a victim scammed into buying a salvaged car, then only the law can help you. If its a storm damaged car then the parts will be rusty, the inside mouldy and moistened, the wires will have been corroded, and it will only be a matter of time before parts cede more liability. If this is not a storm damaged car, there is a high probability that cheap material was used to salvage the car, so again, it will only be a matter of time before you are saddled with the cost of fixing these problems.
  • If you are a victim of a scam, then there is a high probability that the airbags are fake ones. This is an important issue, because at present the cost of new airbags can be as much as $700.
  • The electrical components in any salvage car will have a short lifespan unless the seller installed new components.
  • Another disadvantage can be the psychology. You will always be conscious of the fact that you are driving a salvaged car and you will be ashamed to talk about the car with relatives and friends.
  • If you bought a storm salvaged car then a bruise or a cut from any part of the car may give you a infection, because a storm car would have been parked in polluted water for more than a month. In addition, the moisture in the storm-salvage car is not good for people that suffer from respiratory problems. In addition, these cars cause allergies too.

Conclusion

On the whole, the shortcomings of a salvaged car far outweigh the advantages. Nevertheless, if you want to buy one and then heed the advice given here.
