10 Stagflation Indicators
Stagflation - Inflation and Recession combined
Here are some signs that we are not only entering into a recession but into a period of stagflation as well.
1. Consumer prices have gone up 4.1 percent during last year. This was the largest increase in 17 years.
2. Average wages have decreased 1.4 percent in 2007.
3. Energy and food prices have been increasing at a rapid pace.
4. High energy prices result in inflation, even in a weakened economy.
5. Consumer goods sales in January 2008 were the lowest level in 40 years.
6. The housing credit crunch continues to fuel the stagflation formula.
7. The job market is becoming tighter and tighter.
8. Large merchants are reporting declining sales while some are closing their doors for good.
9. During January Employers have eliminated jobs at a rate which has not been seen in well over 4 years
10. The Federal Reserve is unable or unwilling to act to prevent the problems.

This one is tough to write and read because it is so brutally honest. You can't be a nice guy in small business, you have to be tough and be ready to be a bad guy from time to time. If you don't want to do this I recommend you go back to your cushy corporate job where you have a HR department to do your dirty work for you.
