What an inspiring page to define your own recipe for happiness - thank you so much!
I have personally found that like you say above, the essential key to happiness is to realise you need the recipe for what makes you happy NOW, it is about loving life as a JOURNEY, not always only focusing on the DESTINATION... this is the challenge I have faced all my life, always working and planning "for when..." and not stopping to enjoy the actual day I was living in the present.

A good friend recently had a bad dose of depression. There were solid reasons for it and he found it very hard to pick himself up. Trying to help him pulled me down a bit with a sense of unease drifting around that was hard to shake. He has had a few weeks respite and is getting a bit better but he faces a long road. I am very grateful that my natural inclination is positive but I do feel sorry for so many people who are down. It would be great if there truly was a recipe for happiness that could ease a sick mind other than pharmeceuticals.

Anyhow I like you lens and try to pop by my campfire lens where a jolly crown is gathering
  • Helene-Malmsio May 10, 2012 @ 12:11 am | delete
You sound like a great friend to this person in a depression... it is such a seductive downward spiral... hard to help friends to get motivated to take the 'action' steps required to pull away from it, and can be just as hard to not get drawn into one yourself.

All the more reason to know well what your own recipe for happiness is, so that you can quickly draw on your own resources to become happy again.

Happiness is most definitely a puppy. Was a good read for me with a looming divorce. Seeking and enjoy a state of happiness is more difficult right now but also much more worth it.

Thanks for this, I smiled a lot while I was reading it. Definitely agree that it's a journey not a destination, though that one took a while to learn.

Two boxes met upon the road. Said one to the other, "If you're a box, And I'm a box, Then you must be my brother, Our sides are thin, We're cavin' in, And we must get no thinner" And so two boxes, hand in hand, Went home to have their dinner. - this is my happiness poem

Happiness is - a purring kitten.
When I began reading your lens - before getting past the title even - what flashed through my mind was Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, and how she traveled so far to learn that "when I go seeking happiness I don't have to look any farther than my own back yard." (I may not have the quote exactly right, but the idea's the same.)
    Very nice lens!
That recipe would make a nice poster or wall hanging, wouldn't it?

Absolutely a great lens, happiness is a long journey and we must work hard to get it! It is not something we inherit or buy, a lot depends on our willing to be happy, on our attitude and understanding of life itself.
