Closet Organization

Have you ever spent hours, holding one sock, and looking for the other one? How about missing a bus because you can't find your jacket? Your closet deserves more attention and care than what it is getting. Giving it some time to organize and clean up the clutter will reward you with faster searching and less general frustration.
It is tempting to just let the clutter be and live with a messy, disorganized closet. However, there are tools out there that are made to keep the mess at least within manageable levels. These are not that expensive and with a little common sense, you can buy some and work out your own organizational system.
The closet carousel came with lots of noise as the be all and end all of closet organization. But while it promised a lot, it came up short on delivery. For one thing, it is expensive. Also, it took up so much space that closet capacity suffered. Another attempt that went away quickly are wire baskets that are supposed to be placed inside closets. Their unreliability is what made them fade away from what initial popularity they once had.

If you are really serious about closet organization, it is a good idea to invest in proven systems. If you are going to be living in your current home for a long while, spending the money now will save you from countless headaches down the road. Good systems are made to order to fit your needs and are constructed of wood and other substantial materials.

If you have a limited budget, you can devise your own organizational scheme. There are many ready-made systems out there and a good starting point is visiting one of those big home improvement stores. They usually have displays of their products and seeing these will give you an idea of what could work for your particular situation. You can put in shelving yourself and buy boxes and baskets to put in the bottom of your closet. These will serve as specific places for things that should go together and not to be mixed in with anything else.

Child's Closet

When organizing for a child, have more creative uses for different storage media. Colorful plastic boxes and decorative baskets could not only clear the mess, they could add life to the room as well. A chest could serve as a place for toys. Make it interesting enough and they might actually look forward to tidying up. Also, boxes will make a lot of sense when it's time to put outgrown clothes in the basement or attic.
Many might scoff at the idea of spending for closet organization. But if you factor the time lost looking for stuff and the one-time cost of a proper closet, it makes a lot of sense. You don't want to have to contend with mounds of random clothes every time you get ready in the morning, do you?

Some Necessary Changes

Closets are seen as boring necessities but you can change that. Consider putting accents like a soft flokati rug in the foot of yours. It will keep your bare feet warm on cold mornings as you ponder on what to wear. A pink rug or yellow rug will make the entire area more interesting and add much-needed life.
Another accessory that you can change often and add a nice touch is having a small table close by changing the table settings with the seasons or holidays. Do a Halloween table setting for cHalloween one for Christmas or even one that has a few bright flowers to brighten your day during the winter.
