Recovering files from your hard drive

If you have just deleted files from your computer, they will now be taken to the recycle bin, so therefore you can recover them from there. This is very easy to do as there is usually an icon on your desktop for the recycle bin. When you double-click on it you will see the files that you have deleted. All you have to do is select a file that you want to restore and simply press on the restore link. The file will be put back into its original location.

On the other hand, if you have deleted the files from the recycle bin already, then you have another problem. The files are deleted and you will have to try to recover the files by using a file recovery program.

My tests show that as long as you haven't used your computer to much, you have a good chance of recovering your files in one piece. However
If you have deleted and added a lot more files, and now you want to recover deleted ones, there is less chance that you can recover your files.

The reason for this is that when the files are deleted from a hard drive this space is kept clear until another file comes along and overwrites it. Therefore if you did not use your computer then the space should still be clear and you should be able to recover your files.

If you have formatted your computer then I have bad news for you. I would not guarantee that you could find any files after formatting a hard drive.

If you cannot recover your files by simply finding them or restoring them from this recycled bin then you will need to look to file recovery software. Most of this software is very expensive because you might only use it once. It is not a program that you would be using all of the time.

They are amazing pieces of software though, as it can recover files that you thought were really gone forever. It really depends on how important your file is to you in the first place.

If you have a hard drive that you have taken out of another computer, you can recover the files from it by simply placing it into an external hard drive case. After doing that you can connect the the external hard drive to the other computer so you can view and copy the files. This is the scenario if you have a healthy hard drive with no problems.

The only problem that you will have is figuring out which type of external case you can put your hard drive in. Newer hard drives have a SATA connection and older hard drives have a IDE connection. The older type is long with lots of fiddly pins and you will know that this is the IDE connection. A SATA connection is small and usually has a red cable connecting it. After figuring that out you will know which external case to put your hard drive in.

It takes about ten minutes to manually backup your files and it puzzles me why people do not even bother to do it? Why risk your files by not backing them up.

It is easy to buy an external hard drive and store your files on there. Just go and do it because people who do not backup annoy me!

If this is the case, you should always look towards software or professional repairmen. There is software out there that is designed for most types of digital camera problems, and it can normally recover your pictures in the case of malfunction.

Most services and software can recover almost all files that you have on your camera, from JPEG pictures to video files. Most people transfer their pictures to their computer as soon as they can, which can be recovered using data recovery methods. On the other hand, those who don't, will need a professional to take a look at the camera. If you don't waste any time and seek a professional immediately, your pictures can normally be recovered.
