Choosing the Best Sports Program for Your Child to Join In
Most of the time, parents are involved in making the decision on which sports program their child will be joining in. This is still recommended. Just make sure to be there as guide to your child. Do not take over the responsibility of choosing the program.
Choosing the program based on the age can be wise. There are events that may be too easy for the big kids. There are also events that will be too hard for very young kids to perform at. If you have a preschooler or a child that is aged 3 to 5 years old, you have to consider their short attention span. They will be engrossed on something only for a short period of time and then move on to another thing if they feel like it. This means that team activities will not be appropriate for them. Complex games that have fixed rules and regulations won't be proper to offer to a preschooler as well.
What you can introduce to this group of kids can be activities that have a lot of movement but without rigid rules. Swimming can be a good activity. Martial arts like karate and taekwondo may also be good for them. However, these types of activities might be more appropriate for an older group, specifically the 5 to 7 age group. They may be able to fully understand sportsmanship and discipline. These kids will likewise have more developed bodies that can handle organized movements.
Competitive activities can be started when your kids are aged 8 to 10 years old. This is the age range that will appreciate becoming part of a team. For tweens to teens, they can be more efficient when they are playing contact sports and other complex games. But during these ages, they might be able to effectively choose for themselves. Your role will be to strictly guide them on what they might choose.
