Enjoy the Ride on a "Bent" or Recumbent bicycle

My wife and I rode our bikes from Frisco to Dillon and back on the weekend of July 7th and 8th. On Sunday morning we took our second ride and went across the lake to the Sunday morning service of Dillon Community Church, and very cool Christian congregation. The pastor gave a great talk in the outdoor amphitheatre that morning.
I rode my BikeE recently in Grand Junction, Co with my wife and my favorite cousin Bob. We rode all around the city on the River Trail, a very fun ride. I love paved and concrete trails of course, made to order for my BikeE. Check out my cousin Bob's new coffee house in Delta, Co right on 442 Main Street called Dog House Espresso and I know you will love the place.
My wife and I went to Frisco, Colorado last weekend and spend the entire weekend riding our bikes, and I heard from her for the first time that she was interested in getting a recumbent. I was floored, but I held back on the reactions and started thinking about how I could do this. I want a new one too, so obviously the best plan is to get 2 new RANS bikes from the Smith Bike Shop in Grand Junction as soon as I can afford it. Wow, now I have a specific goal.
Nothing is better than a recumbent bike for comfort and pleasure. As we get older we need easier ways to get our exercise, enjoy the view and the ride. Everyday upright bikes are hard on the shoulders and those skinny seats cause circulation to be cut off to the feet in many cases. NOT when you ride a cool Recumbent Bicycle!
A recumbent bicycle is a variety of bicycle which places the rider in a seated or supine position (rarely, in a prone position). Recumbents hold the world speed record for a bicycle and were banned from international racing in 1934.
The back of the rider is supported, and the rider's legs extend forward to pedals that are at about the same height as the seat. Steering is either above- or over-seat steering (ASS or OSS) using a handlebar in front of the rider, or under-seat steering (USS) using a handlebar under the seat. The wheels are often smaller and/or further apart than on an upright bicycle.
I have a website that has many recumbent bicycles for sale through the ebay system and I lay them all out for you right on the front page.
Here is my own testimony about my bike, which is a BikeE
In the past, I rode mountain bikes and road bikes of traditional design. You know what I'm talking about, those killer bikes the young people love so much that make your shoulders sore, and your butt too! Not so with the bicycle you see at the left. It is the BikeE Recumbent, with full back support and a very comfortable (wide) seat with plenty of cushion. It's a little like riding a chopper, without a piston engine. The engine is you! Your cranks are out in front of you, similar to how it works on many types of excercise bikes in the gym. This bike is great for your body. It really works your hips & thighs.

My wife and I go on rides quite a lot in good weather times, and she rides an upright while I ride my BikeE above. I have a friend who rides a home built full on recumbent with under the seat steering, and we really create attention when we ride together through the city parks and trails.
Young people naturally gravitate to recumbent bicycles because they look like "low riders". Wherever I go on the bike, no matter what, I always get at least one comment like "man that's a cool bike", or "hey man, how much dies that bike cost"?

The History of recumbent cycling:
Records of recumbent designs go back to the early days of cycling, however recumbent use was not widespread until the late 20th century. Recumbent riders hold world speed records for unpaced, human-powered vehicles. Tricycles form a substantial part of the recumbent market (far more so than they do for uprights); the generic term "bike" tends to be applied to these as well.
I have found a great website for Recumbent Riders called WWW.BENTRIDERONLINE.COM
This is an excellent bent source of information. Includes lots of reviews of recumbent bikes and equipment. Also the International Human Powered Vehiocle Association is interesting to visit - They have published an FAQ about recumbents - Read the recumbent FAQ
