Recycle Used Cell Phones - Make Money Recycling Cell Phones

Get cash to recycle your old cell phone! Sell your used cell phones, or donate them to support a worthwhile cause or charity.

Why should you recycle your used cell phone? Here are a few reasons you may not have considered:

By recycling cell phones, you...

1. Help preserve our environment and the planet.

Refurbishing and recycling cell phones is a first step in the right direction of preventing any further damaging effects to the environment, but so far the number of phones being recycled is minimal (less than 1 percent of the phones retired and discarded each year are recycled according to research by INFORM).

And, did you know gorillas in the Congo are an unsuspecting victim of cell phone production? You see, cell phones are in hot demand worldwide and as that demand continues to grow, so does the impact on gorillas habitat.

The reason for this is cell phones contain a rare ore called Coltan which is used as a semi-conductor. This metal is found in Central Africa. As a result, increased mining operations means natural habitat loss and increased hunting pressure on gorillas and other wildlife.

Wildlife reserves suffer the most from Coltan mining. The two most affected sites are the Kahuzi-Biega National Park and Okapi Wildlife Reserve.

In addition, the United States currently has more than 150 million cell phone users nationwide and that number continues to grow. Each year, more than 100 million old and used cell phones are either put in a drawer or thrown away ending up in landfills. A cell phone battery contains heavy metals, lead, mercury, arsenic, etc. When sent to a landfill, these batteries break down quickly and pose a threat to the air and water supply. By recycling, fewer new phones need to be produced, there will be less impact on the gorillas' habitat in Africa and on our environment here at home.

2. Help a charity or a person in need.

For example, old cell phones can be donated and functioning phones can then be designated as 911 phones to those in need, such as victims of domestic violence. There are literally hundreds of organizations that can benefit from the donation of old and used cell phones.

Either way, recycling cell phones will help save the environment by preventing the phones from filling up landfills and potentially leaking toxic chemicals they contain such as arsenic, lead and zinc, or save lives by donating them to those who need them most.

3. Create an additional full or part-time income for yourself.

Some people have even made it their full or part-time business to collect and recycle old cell phones! It really is very simple actually. You can set up collection points around your town for people to drop off old and used cell phones... collect them on a regular basis... sort them and mail them in (postage paid)... receive your check! That's it!

All you have to do to help is find the old cell phones collecting dust at home or work and mail them in (postage is even paid for you!). You can either sell them and get the cash for yourself, or donate them to the charity of your choice.
