Waste Not...Want Not?
If they don't want it, they won't use it!
First off, make sure the gift you are giving to that person is something they actually want...there's no sense in giving them something if they're going to throw it away! Don't be shy, ask them if you feel comfortable and see what they want, or see ask what they've bought lately and buy a companion item (like they just bought a wine fridge...buy a couple of bottles of wine, or maybe they just bought a new computer...buy some computer speakers or a gift card to buy some). Wrap your Gift with...things from your Closet?
The Most Creative Part!
Many objects can be wrapped in things other than paper. How about old fabric? You can use old, unique clothing, curtains, anything! This is much more fancy and will save you the effort of buying wrapping paper AND the money...not to mention you're recycling. Newspaper also makes a great wrap, try the comics! How about gift bags? Gifts will not only fit in just BAGS, but they'll fit in barrels, jars, tins, glasses, and sacs. Get creative, dress up the container if need be with personalized things like ribbon, bows, etc and there you have it! A more personal and eco-friendly way to give gifts. As long as it looks good!
Creativity is what will make the gift look great, not how expensive the wrapping paper is. People will appreciate the thought you put into the wrapping, and it will be a lot more green. You can even save the wrapping after opening and recycle that, too!

Buying Recycled Gift Wrap
Of course, saving the gift bags you receive from other people is a great idea, too. Not to mention the tissue paper. If you're dead-set on new wrapping paper, there are many organizations that sell recycled wrapping paper, or paper that portions of the proceeds go to an environmental cause (the Nature Conservancy, Sierra Club, many others). These are often times higher quality or noticably unique featuring various wildlife or natural winter scenery. You can find removable tape here on ebay if you'd like to recycle in that fashion--simply remove the tape from the old wrapping paper and reuse!

Almost every town in the country has a recycling center as well, so after the holiday gift-opening extravaganza is complete, you can break down cardboard from the boxes to be recycled, and paper can be properly recycled as well. Also, you're live tree can be recycled as well, simply google "recycle christmas trees" for many sites that will instruct you on how to properly recycle it. Gift Wrap Poll

If you spray starch the old used gift wrapping paper, you can almost get it new again. Take care that you remove the sticky tape so it doesn't gum up the iron!
