Recycling at Home
In The Begining
Unfortunately, I soon found out I was the only one on my street who took her recycling bin out on Wednesdays. No one else did.
Recycling at Home
Three Years Later
Three years later at least 7 people on our street have a recycling bin set out on Wednesdays. Sure 7 isn't a lot of progress in 3 years, but there are also more bins out on recycling day throughout the neighborhood. The way I see it, some progress is better than no progress and now the recycling truck doesn't have to make a trip on my street just for my bin anymore.
Do you recycle
What is recycling?
Recycling involves processing used materials into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution (from incineration) and water pollution (from landfilling) by reducing the need for "conventional" waste disposal, and lower greenhouse gas emissions as compared to virgin production. Recycling is a key component of modern waste management and is the third component of the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle...
5 Easy Recycling Tips
2. Use the back of receipts as scratch paper.
3. Use egg cartons to plant seeds and watch seedlings grow.
4. Use old stockings to tie up plants in your garden.
5. Compost your kitchen scraps.
Reduce! Reduse! Reduce!
Reduce your waste. For new clothes swap with a friend or at a clothes swap meet.
For new books check out books from the library or swap. For new furniture join freecycle. For new knick-knacks visit a resales shop, a thrift store, a flea market, or a consignment store. It may be used, but it doesn't mean it can't be reused. It saves you money and reduces waste.

Stop Unwanted Mail
You know it when you see it because you probably call it junk mail and it just ends up in the trash (or the recy le bin). We can talk later about how to recycle your junk mail, but the best thing to do for the environment is help reduce the production of unwanted mail. It will save trees, water, energy and prevent more waste from eneding up in the landfill.
Help me get the word out to companies that it is not okay to send us unwanted junk mail. There are various ways to do this. We can contact the company directly via phone, email or mail and ask them to take us off their mailing list. We can follow the instructions at the websites below to remove us from specifics types of junk mail.

- Do-it-yourself: Stop junk mail, email and phone calls
- Junk mail may seem as inevitable as death and taxes, but with a little patience there are effective ways to tackle the problem. This guide provides clear, simple and proven reduction techniques. About 20 minutes investment now will clear the junk for between two and five years.
- REMOVE YOURSELF FROM JUNK MAIL LISTS
- Junk mail is more than a nuisance: unsolicited mail has a tremendous negative impact on the environment. At least 100 million trees are destroyed each year to produce junk mail, and 28 billion gallons of water are used to produce the paper. All of these resources are wasted to produce items many people don't even look at: about half of all junk mail is thrown out unopened or unread, and the rate of response to junk mail is less than 2 percent. The result is that more than 4 million tons of paper is wasted every year, according to the Native Forest Network (now known as the WildWest Institute).

What is a compost?
Category: File - :Compost-dirt.jpg|thumb|right|An example of compost soil
Compost ( or US ) is a combination of decomposed plant and animal materials and other organic materials that are being decomposed largely through aerobic decomposition into a rich black soil. The process of composting is simple and practiced by individuals in their homes, farmers on their land, and industrially by industries and cities.
Compost soil is very rich soil and used for many purposes. A few of the places that it i...
