Information on Waste
According to the EPA, the average U.S. citizen produced 4.4 pounds of waste PER DAY during 2000. This comes out to over 1600 pounds of trash every year per each person. I bet you had no idea that you, just one little person, could produce so much waste, did you?
You can recyle just about anything!
Did you know that you can recycle just about ANYTHING?
You can recycle:
Paper
Books: (if it's a hardback book, just tear the hard cover off, and throw the rest into the recyle bin)
Soda Cans: pull the tabs off and donate them to your local schools!
Aerosol Cans: just make sure its completely empty and recyle with your other cans
Batteries: It's important that you don't throw these away as recycling these keeps hazardous metals out of the landfills.
Carpet: Yes, carpet can be recycled. Call the manufacturer to see where you can take it.
Cellphones: Don't throw out your old phone! If you get a new one, turn the old one in when you buy the new one. Or, most schools have a cell phone drop area.
Fluorescent lightbulbs: You know those energy saving lightbulbs everyone is using right now? Don't throw those out. They contain mercury. Your local hardware store should take them once you're done with them.
Film canisters: I know, a lot of people are using digital cameras now a days, however, if you do have film canisters, take them to your local photo shop.
Hangers: take them to the drycleaners
I'll add to this list daily.
