Red Lobster For The Seafood Lover In You!

Red Lobster is not an inexpensive choice but it is a delicious one! In June of 2009, our son graduated from Grade 12 and he chose Red Lobster in Ottawa on St. Laurent Boulevard for his graduation dinner. We were amazed at the comfortable surroundings, the pleasant service and the delicious food and we had a very nice, private celebration of his hard-earned graduation.

Red Lobster

For those of you in the know, this is not actually OUR Red Lobster restaurant here in Ottawa. I will be replacing this photo with an actual one as soon as I can. Meanwhile, this picture gives the general idea. It was shot by drewesque and posted on Flickr.

We visited Red Lobster early one Friday evening.

We were greeted pleasantly and immediately shown to a table for four.

We didn't actually see these guys at the restaurant
but there definitely were lobsters there and the staff
was just as pleasant as these two are!

Our waitress arrived quickly and explained a few daily specials including the fresh catch of the day.

She took our drink order and recommended an excellent non-alcoholic drink, the Sunset Passion Colada, for my husband and my son. I ordered a Triple Berry Sangria.

She returned in a reasonable time frame with our drinks and took our orders.

My son and I both ordered Wood-Grilled Lobster and Sweet and Spicy Shrimp as shown in the video. This meal included a grilled lobster tail, a skewer of sweet and spicy shrimp and jumbo coconut shrimp served with pina colada sauce.

My husband ordered the Peach-Bourbon BBQ Shrimp and Scallops.

Our meals came with a salad -- tossed or Caesar. My husband and I enjoyed our tossed salads with balsamic vinaigrette although the salad would be my one disappointment of the evening since it consisted only of iceberg lettuce and a couple of tomato slices and cucumber slices. My son's Caesar salad looked and was delicious. Obviously, he knew what he was doing.

A basket of fresh bread was delicious, if a touch salty.

All three of us thoroughly enjoyed our seafood. It was every bit as scrumptious as it appears in the video.

Our sweet and spicy shrimp had a nice bite, the coconut shrimp was delicious as was the accompanying sauce and the lobster tail was good, too. I enjoyed the grill flavour of the sweet and spicy shrimp and the lobster although I couldn't help wondering if the lobster was a little overpowered by the grill.

My husband said his bourbon shrimp was just 'peachy.'

All of our meals were served with rice and broccoli which both my son and I thought were 'okay' or 'all right' but not great. We didn't care for the flavor of the rice and the broccoli simply wasn't particularly flavourful. We could have substituted a variety of items for the rice, next time we will. My husband's rice was fine but it enjoyed the benefit of the bourbon-peach sauce.

Overall:

We really wanted dessert but alas, we were simply too full to eat another bite. I had my eye on the key lime pie which sounded and looked delicious.

My son recommended we come back another time for dessert. If we do go back, you will be the first to know.

Susan52 recommended take out for our dessert. Now what a brilliant idea that was...the key lime pie would have been just as tasty at home! Too late this time but next time, we'll keep her suggestion in mind!
