Peugeot Merlot Red Wine Decanter for Young Red Wine Glass and Pewter
A beautiful decanter that will make proud any wine connoisseur. Its gorgeous shape is not random: it is made to help the aeration process when pouring the wine into the decanter. Perfect for young, immature wines to get that needed aroma that makes any wine special.
The glass is hand-blown with careful attention to detail. One of my very favorite decanters that I own (yes, I own more than one decanters for red wine and whiskey).

Decanting Wine With a Red Wine Decanter

Decanting wine using a red wine decanter is the process by which the red wine is separated from its sediments or deposits. While many wines nowadays don't really need to be decanted, there are still some with sediments that are not very nice to server to guests particularly if they get to feel the pieces in their wine.
Some people actually find drinking wine with sediments disgusting. So making a good impression with your classy wine upon your guests is important, therefore you need to decant your wine.
To properly decant your wine, you need to follow a few simple steps, shown below.
Looking for this decanter to pour your wine the bottle? You can get it here:
Steps To Decant Your Wine
- 1Take the wine from its storage location in the cellar or any cool place it was stored in. Hopefully the wine was lying on its side.
- 2If the wine has too much deposit, leave the bottle upright for a day or so, for the sediments to settle at the bottom of your bottle.
- 3Hold the decanter in one hand and the bottle in the other and start pouring slowly with a steady hand.
- 4If you notice during pouring that sediment has started to accumulate to the neck of the bottle ready to be transferred to the decanter, stop and position the bottle slowly upright again for the sediment to settle.
- 5When the clear wine is poured through, the bottle should contain no more than a glass of wine full of sediments.
A little bit of sediment going through to the decanter is ok, it will settle to the bottom of it as well when pouring into the glasses of your guests. Just make sure to transfer as less deposits as possible.
One of the best types of decanters to use for red wine is the crystal decanter. It is not only looking gorgeous and classy but it is of very high quality that you will have joy from for many years to come.
Did you know that a crystal decanter used to be a symbol of aristocracy in Europe in the earlier centuries? Read here more about the history of decanters.

Decanter Or Aerator - What's The Difference?
Simply put... time.
The aerator is faster, the decanter takes longer time (but the quality of the wine is much better as a result).
The decanter can also store the wine for some time (e.g. during wine tasting parties, etc) to let it 'rest' and breath.
Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator
Essential to the pleasure of full bouquet flavor and aroma, this aerator mixes the precise amount of air as you pour to allow wine to breathe for better taste and a smoother finish without decanting. Perfect aeration in the time it takes to pour a glass.

Red Wine Decanter - Serving The Wine
Serving wine from the red wine decanter or even a bottle to the glasses of guests is an art in itself. Here are a few pointers that you need to know before serving your red wine.
- 1Although white wine should be served chilled, the red wine should be served at room temperature.
- 2Before you serve the wine, make sure that it's sediment free. Decant it first with your red wine decanter if you see sediments at the bottom of your bottle.
- 3Depending on the wine and how long it has been stored away, it might need a bit of breathing time.
- 4Use a good crystal decanter set for pouring into glasses.
- 5Use clear glasses so you can see through them easily. Make sure that they are clean and nice looking. Don't go pouring wine in water glasses!
- 6Never fill the glass to more than about half full. This way the wine can be swirled around freely to release its aromas without splashing it all over your table.

- I sometime use a decanter - but often just prefer to open a bottle long enough in advance and leave it tilted to allow the air to work.

- Where we live it is very common to buy wine in 5 litre bottles. This makes a decanter a must, everybody uses it. I like the ones you show here, though, with the unusual shape!

- A good Lens! Some red wines should be opened early to have contact with air in the decanter before even the glass. For folks in hot climates, you might explain that "room temperature" is about 65-70 degrees F.
