Listing the Best Redneck Names For Your Dog or Puppy
I decided to put together a comprehensive listing of "redneck dog names" for those folks looking for a proper name for their dog or puppy (or other pet too).
I have previously built a lens with all sorts of best dog names, from techno to Italian, but the redneck names have been so popular and fun to do, I decided that they needed a lens all their own.
Please visit and leave your comments, especially if you want me to include a good redneck (or podunk) name, I may have overlooked. I will be adding additional names from time to time.
The picture is of my 1 year old adopted coon hound Reuben - just love that dog and his name! Visit Reuben's lens here: Reuben's Rescue Dog Pals

Redneck Dog and Puppy Names
Female Redneck Dog Names, Part I

For me, redneck names represent a lot of character. A solid countrified name, characteristic of rural life, hard work and simple values. Although originally associated with the Southern States (Georgia), I think this culture flourishes in many rural areas where people are proud and straightforward. What better name for an honest and good natured mixed breed of humble origin, or outdoor loving, hunting dog. It can also be a pretty good fit for a hound dog. Lovable and a bit comical.
Think about it and I bet you'll agree, it's a good ole' redneck name for me!
Some great redneck female dog names include:
- Bambi - Italian origin, meaning childlike
- Daisy - American origin, pretty little flower
- Angel - Greek origin, meaning angelic (not the one I knew)
- Betty Lou - unknown origin, meaning slightly overfed
- Baylee - unknown origin, variation Bailie
- Amaleen - unknown origin or meaning (sounds good though)
- Candi - American, meaning sweet and chubby?
- Clarice - Latin origin, meaning "clear as a bell"
- Bobby-Jo - unknown - female form of Bobby Joe (duh)
- Dakota - origin Native American, meaning friend
- Claudine - origin Latin/French, female version of clutz
- Desiree - origin Latin/French, meaning, "craved" (hmmm)
- Claudette -origin Latin/French, female version Claud(e)
- Cherry - American origin, meaning sweet as fruit
I plan to continue right through the alphabet with all the redneck names you can handle. A few podunk names as well. What's the difference between a redneck name and a podunk name you ask? Good question, I'll answer that one soon so stay tuned.

Male Redneck Dog Names, Part II

Redneck dog names for male dogs are solid and tough. These dogs would much prefer chasing squirrels or racoons, than going for a walk in the city. When the thrill of the chase, or the excitement over visitors is complete, you'll find them curled-up in the shade, away from the pesky flies and mosquitos, dreaming of the chase all over again.
Here are some of my favorite redneck names for male dogs:
- Billy-Bob - American origin - meaning big as a house
- Beau (Bo) - French origin, meaning handsome and debonair
- Wade - unknown origin, loves the water
- Cletis - American origin, meaning dull as a stone
- Eustice - unknown origin, hellova poker player
- Buddy (Bud) - American origin, a variety of beer
- Elrod - unknown origin, unknown meaning (what does that say?)
- Buck - American origin, meaning male deer, buck fever
- Coy - American origin, not as dumb as he looks!
- Bodean - unknown origin, late for dinner
We have barely scratched the surface and will provide some more great redneck dog names for your consideration soon.
Now the difference between "redneck" and "podunk" dog names. Whereas the term, redneck has it's origins reflecting the culture of poor whites in the Southern U.S., the term "podunk" has its origins in the backwoods areas of New England and basically refers to small town or rural areas of very little importance. Although from two completely separate areas of the country, they are similar in the fact that they represent rural folks of common means. Podunk is actually a Native American word, thought to have originated with the name of a particular tribe in New England.
Rednecks and Podunkers also share some of the same Scotch-Irish ancestry, love of country music, similar humor and of course some of the same names. This makes for even more interesting dog names - woof!

(then you can shake a stick at!)

Redneck dogs are "All- American types" rough and tough all the way. They have a decided preference for the country life and have two speeds, running and chasing (while barking) and of course, snoozing under their favorite shade tree. They never take life, or rules too seriously, which is why they spend most of their time outdoors.
Now there are some redneck dog wannabees out there - so beware of posers. Every dog wants to be a redneck dog at heart.
Here are some great female names for the country dog:
*Earlene, er-lene, (English, from Earl, meaning leader)
*Faylene, fay-lene, (unknown origin)
*Hattie, hat-ti, (Redneck, push with foot??)
*Jaylyn, jay-lin (unknown)
*Jazlean, jaz-lean (unknown)
*Jozelle, jo-zelle, (unknown)
*Layla, lay-la, (Arabic, dark beauty)
*Lexus, lex-us, (from Alexa, American, meaning defender)

These countrified dogs are happiest when treeing a coon or helping bring the livestock in. They are much more at home around tractors and manure spreaders than with city traffic and BMWs. Music taste is for Blue Grass and Garth Brooks - no hip hop please!
And for the country squire, how about the following:
*Earl, url, (English, meaning leader)
*Elrod, el-rod, (Redneck, meaning asleep under a tree??)
*Floyd, floid, (English, meaning gray)
*Forrest, for-est, (English, meaning of the woods - as in thick?)
*Harley, har-lee, (English, meaning spacious meadow -or motorcycle?)
*Homer, ho-mer, (Greek, meaning promise - who likes corn liquor)
*Jed, jed, (American, meaning friend of God - or Beverly Hillbilly?)
*Junior, june-yer, (English, meaning the young child )
*Luther, lu-ther, (English, meaning People Army)
*Micah, my-ca, (Hebrew, meaning who is like God)
I hope that these have been helpful for you and I have particularly tried to stay with one and two syllable names, as these are the best and easiest for the dog to learn. Happy hunting and stay tuned for even more Redneck dog and puppy names as we work our way through the alphabet.
