My sister and her boyfriend got a pitbull and I have to admit, the first time he yawned all I could think was "lockjaw" and off I went running upstairs. But little Coco was the sweetest dog ever. Once, around this time of year, he was so scared of fireworks, but we had a lovely snuggle and watched Harry Potter together. Miss him. Great lens.

The first section has fantastic advice for anyone getting a new puppy of any breed! Checking out the house from the pup's level is something not many folks do! The dog and guinea pig video and also the one of the dog and baby chicks are especially demonstrative of the gentleness a pit bull can have! Thanks for a great lens.

I am a dog walker and I walk a pit bull cross. A lovely dog, though I do have to watch her if she gets too excited during play with other dogs. Thanks for providing such detailed pit bull info!

Anyone with a dog will be aware of the annoyance it can cause when their dog starts barking in the middle of the night. Some do it only sometimes but other dogs develop a habit of unnecessarily barking throughout the night & create problems to the owners & the neighbors. This is where bark collars come in the picture; it's a device in which it activates itself whenever the dog barks. This will train the dog not to bark unnecessarily. In the beginning your dog may get a little agitated & might behave oddly but nothing to worry about it's just the initial phase of the training process. Once the dog figures out that it's the barking that's causing the irritating thing to happen he will automatically stop barking excessively.

I have three pit bulls. They are a misunderstood breed. Leave a pit bull to do want they want and they will, and that may be aggressive behavior. Train your pit bull to behave, and they will. Perhaps it is not a pit bull training manual, but a how to train an owner to have a pit bull! My next book!!!!

Great lens! I love my pitbull and can't imagine how anyone could think that pitbulls are anything near the ferocious beasts that they are portrayed as

I've got a sweet little pit puppy, and she has got to be the sweetest most affectionate dog I have ever met. Thanks for the great lens about a very misunderstood breed.

Nice lens, we have a Staffordshire pittbull called Mitzi she is very loving, and a Siberian husky. We also have 4 cats and they are the ones who are in control. With good leadership skills no dog will be aggressive but like everything we all have survival instinct. As long as people don't threaten or scare dogs then they have no need to bite. Obviously they are pack animals and like humans have a tendency to want to protect their family if needed, it's just nature. Nice work.

Good informational source! I like your article about the new pit bull puppy and the tips for home and family. This will be a good start for the puppy. I try to get more information about pit bulls on my homepage at www.pitbull-dogs.com and hope it will be as informative as your page.

I strongly believe that no dog is aggressive by its nature, only when it's trained to be. So thumbs up for all the Pits!

Pitbulls get a bad rap, so I wanted to make sure they looked ultra cute for my cartoon pets site.

I have cropped ears ones here:
    http://www.cartoonizemypet.com/shop/dogs/pitbull

    ....and floppy ears here:
    http://www.cartoonizemypet.com/shop/dogs/staffordshire-bull-terrier
(You can change the breed name from Staffie)

I hope you like them! :)

I love my pet Pitbull named Pete..He is so cute and i hate the misconception people have that they are feirce and dangerous. I think all animals are dangerous when provoked, even ants bite though they are minute in size.. All Tex Exteriors
  • jjones444 Sep 30, 2010 @ 4:51 pm | delete
Thanks for the post! Pit bulls have had a bad rep for a while, but they aren't nearly as dangerous as people think they are, in general. Yeah, some people train them to be vicious, but I think they're innately happy and loyal like most dogs. I've heard training them can be difficult, but once that's over you'll have the perfect family dog. www.bluevicekennels.com
  • devsdca Aug 8, 2010 @ 1:23 am | delete
Good article! Pit Bulls have the controversial image to be quite dangerous and they can be, but if they're being trained and receive lot's of love from early age on, Pit Bulls aren't dangerous dogs at all.
  • SafeCard Jul 11, 2010 @ 6:52 pm | delete

Pitbulls sure are nice dogs. They will behave good and loyal just like other dogs when they got love from the family they are with. Just don't let them into wrong hand, they can turn them into monster

We have a Pit Bull and I love him. My husband had him before we got married. I was really nervous about him being around the kids, mainly because he had never been around children. We have had no problems and it has been two years now. He is actually protective of the kids and loves to play and lay with them on the couch.

In the UK Pitbulls are on the banned list - there have been too many tragedies, particularly involving children. However, I agree with you that it is the owners and breeders who should take the blame for any dog to become "dangerous".

Now it looks like over here "Staffies" (Staffordshire Bull Terriers) are going the same way. They can be a handful if not trained properly. They seem to be the new dog of choice for those who would have had a pitbull if they had not been banned. Aggressive dogs are now being deliberately trained and bred as a result.

My own dog is a German Shepherd and people who do not know her can be wary of her just because she is a GSD. What they do not know is that she was specially bred at kennels that use Guide Dogs for the Blind stud dogs in their breeding programme and she is a wonderful companion for my family.

I would never want to have a pit bull, they are definitely not the dog for me, but this is a very good lens

I wish you had more photos, they are such beautiful dogs,

Nice Lense. We have a pit bull just over a year old. She's such a baby and we spoil her way too much. She takes up 1/3 of the middle of the bed. We just got a kitten a few weeks ago and she loves it, might lick a little too hard on her, but they're loving each other. Thanks for the great information!

Great lens, these poor dogs always get a bad rap. People don't realize it's the owner, not the dog. I watch the Dog Whisperer all the time and am absolutely amazed at what Cesar Millan can do with these animals. Thanks for making this lens so people can realize that these are not horrible dogs!! 5** and favorited
