So you're thinking of a Red Nose Pitbull puppy?

You'll need to know a few things.

First, you should check out some good health care for your Pitbull so you don't run into dog health problems with your new Pitbull.

Before you bring home your new Red Nose Pitbull puppy, you should already have the necessary preparations made in order for your new puppy to feel safe and comfortable. The more prepared you are before he arrives, the better your chances are of ensuring his safety and in saving your home from destruction once your puppy gets used to it.

Since your new American Pitbull puppy is naturally inquisitive, he will be fascinated by anything and everything around your house. Without proper preparation, your cute puppy will start chewing and playing with whatever he can sink his teeth into. You might need to do some home improvement tasks to make sure that your home is safe enough for your new playful pup. Make sure that the whole family knows about the safety efforts. Inform them about the terrible result that can happen to your puppy should they become careless.

As with all breeds of puppy, Pitbull puppies are very curious, and liable to get into everything. So everyplace where your Pitbull puppy may wander must be puppy friendly. You may want to crawl around on the ground at puppy level to see what kind of trouble awaits him. In addition to making your home puppy-friendly for your new Pibull puppy, you need to be alert to the following factors:

1. One of your Pitbull puppy's favorite hobbies is chewing. If given the opportunity, he will chomp on electrical cords and lick electrical outlets. This exploration can result in death from severe burns, shock, and loss of jaw and tongue tissue. Your Pitbull pup can also pull electrical appliances down by pulling the cords or pulling over heavy and unstable objects that can fall down on him.

2. Stairs, balconies, and high decks are hazard spots. You may use temporary plastic fencing, baby gates, or even chicken wire if necessary, to keep your Pitbull puppy from entering these areas.

3. Keep your floor clean and free of anything that your puppy can easily put in his mouth. Keep all forms of cleaners, chemicals, strings, coins, and other small objects out of your Pitbull puppy's sight.

4. Invest in a good fence for your yard to prevent your Pitbull puppy from roaming outside the property. Check your yard for any sharp and broken branches within your Pitbull puppy's reach. If you have a pool, show your dog how to find the steps where he can get out.

5. Doors can be a very dangerous area for your Pitbull puppy. Everyone in your family should be made aware of the danger of slamming the door where the puppy may be in the way. Attach stickers to your glass doors at puppy eye level to prevent him from running into it. Finally, every door that leads to unfenced outdoor areas must be kept securely shut.

Are Pitbulls Dangerous Dogs?

Pitbulls have a reputation for being fierce and downright dangerous. Some local authorities have a list of banned dogs, and the Pitbull is always on that list.

Why? Well, there are a couple of reasons - one is the view that Pitbulls were bred specifically for dog fighting. There is little evidence that this is the case, and I personally don't subscribe to that theory. Certainly some unscrupulous people have attempted to breed a vicious dog, and have used Pitbulls for that purpose.

The second reason is that a bad rap for a dog becomes a self-perpetuating "myth" laced with a little reality. There are some Pitbull owners (and owners of other dogs for that matter - usually Rottweilers, Doberman Pinschers, German Shepeherds, and others) who do train their dogs to be fierce. Some of these dog owners like to have their dog as a guard dog as opposed to a pet. And because of the rap that Pitbulls have for being ferocious, people who want a fierce dog, or a dog they intend to train to be fierce, will invariably choose the breeds they perceive (from public opinion) to be fierce - often the Pitbull.

Pit Bull Training

I'm often asked whether Pit Bull training is any more difficult than training of other breeds of dog. Or whether there is in fact any difference in Pit Bull training or training of any other specific breed.

Well, as with so many questions about different dog breeds, it often depends upon the trainer, and the individual dog.

In general, though, although Pit Bulls can be strong willed, they're reasonably intelligent, and therefore not too difficult to train in basic commands.

Getting your Pit Bull trained so that he fully understands that you are the "top dog" can sometimes be a challenge. And it's very important to establish this heirachy with any medium to large breed of dog.
