I knew very little of paprika before I read this. You've put together a fantastic and very thorough lens. I especially liked the fish soup video. I feel like I've visited Hungary for a little while. And my mouth is watering!

I do not think that the Hungarian stews require smoked paprika . Just simply the good quality of paprika ...for us it means from smallholders in Kalocsa area .. I think one can make a good gulyas at home as well .

Your recipes and videos make me very hungry, Alma....especially those bubbling cauldrons of gulyás. I'm in touch with a gal from Hungary periodically and she told me about the country festivals and those rustic stews. So, I began using paprika, myself. I haven't been able to find any hot smoked paprika...so I make do by combining chipotle pepper with lots of paprika. I mix in some plain yogurt right in the bowl. Quite good, actually! But without the "personality" of real gulyás made in cauldrons in the open air by real Hungarians, I'm afraid. Delicious lens! Thumbs up!

Swisstoons ! I must admit that I am also great fan of paprika ! I must cook every week twice or three times a stew or fish soup !
part of my childhood I spent in a paprika producing area and every September the town was filled with the smell of drying paprika coming from the factory .. and I became addicted at that time ..
Thank you for all your nice comments and adding !
    Alma

Excellent lens, Alma! I really enjoyed reading it and soaking up the information you've provided. Wish I had a big bowlful of your dad's fish soup or a plateful of your mom's stuffed cabbage. And as soon as I've finished starring, favoritng and lensrolling this lens to my Laftovers lens, I am going to go take a look at the bubbling cauldron of gulyas. I'm looking forward to the day when computers have advanced to the oint where the user can actually reach in with a big spoon and TASTE all the great dishes on this lens and other food lenses. :) I've also joined your fan club.
