RECYCLING...Making the World a GREENER Place, One Person at a Time :)
Ranked #20,394 in Healthy Living, #294,486 overall
Motivating and Teaching Kids, Teens and Young Adults to Recycle; We ARE THE FUTURE!
Here are 5 different reasons why we should recycle!
1) Recycling conserves our valuable natural resources.
2) Recycling saves energy.
3) Recycling saves clean air and clean water.
4) Recycling saves landfill space.
5) Recycling can save money and create jobs.
Pollution Is a Problem!
The world is not your trash bin.
Pollution can be defined as chemical contaminations or other agents that can hurt our environment. THE ENVIRONMENT is where WE live...and sadly to say it is very polluted. Natural processes have released toxic chemicals into the environment through the history of the Earth, but the biggest type of pollution is generated by US, humans.
There are basically 3 types of Pollution. They are:
1) Air Pollution
2) Water pollution
3) Land Pollution
Air, Land and Water make up our environment...AND THEY ARE ALL POLLUTED.
The following is a list of things that contribute to the pollution of our Earth. :(
1) Deforestation - Large companies cut down a large scale of trees without any intention of replanting. The less trees there are, the less oxygen is released into our environment...and pollution levels rise causing a disorder in nature and chemicals.r.
2) Polluted rivers - Many factories release their chemical wastes and dirty water into nearby rivers. These chemicals alter the wildlife living in these bodies of water that can eventually harm of us.
3) Oil spills- Oil spills lead to a chain of events that are harmful to our environment, marine life, and to us in the long run...
4) Air Pollution - Every day factories release tons of waste and pollutants and chemicals which pollute the air. These chemicals are dangerous to our ozone layer which protects our earth. The pollutants factories let out cause smog and can be extremely dangerous to our health. Every year millions of people die from exposure to chemicals and pollutants.
5) Soil pollution - When waste is dumped into the soil , many toxic chemicals are released in it making it difficult to plant in that specific area.
POLLUTION CAN CAUSE MANY LIFE THREATENING PROBLEMS like like asthma, high blood pressure, water borne diseases, chronic respiratory problems and even DEATH.
What Happens When You DON'T Recycle
It's worse than you thought... :(
Everyone talks about recycling and how important it is for our Earth, but it hasn't really been made clear what happens when you DON'T recycle. Sure we know that some effects lead to global warming, climate change etc... But who or what does it specifically affect? What's the real 411?items that could have been reprocessed and put towards the production of new items are simply being put in a landfill and covered in dirt and left to decompose and release their (potentially) harmful ingredients into the soil/environment.
Whereas if you recycle, it removes the need to produce items from raw materials. Say you recycle all of your paper products. that goes towards making new paper products such as bathroom tissue, news papers, books, etc... if you recycle your plastic items that goes towards the production of clothes, housing material, razors. where as if none of these items were made from recycled materials, millions of trees would be cut down, new plastic would be made, millions of gallons of water (used in the creation of these new materials) would be wasted, & millions of gallons of chlorine (use in the whitening process of paper products) would be used.
That will raise the demand for more raw materials. For example, If you do not recycle paper, the companies won't get their old paper back to create new paper again. They will need to get more raw materials to create the paper again, in this case cutting more trees.
Factories and companies keep wasting energy to make things from raw materials, releasing excess carbon dioxide into the air, contributing to global warmin
Recycling is the Solution!
Here are some facts that can motivate YOU to start recycling ASAP!
-Every ton of mixed paper recycled can save the energy equivalent of 185 gallons of gas.-Recycling just 1 ton of aluminum cans rather than throwing them away conserves more than 207 million BTUs, the equivalent of 36 barrels of oil or 1,655 gallons of gasoline.
-If every American home replaced just one light bulb with an ENERGY STAR qualified bulb, we would save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes for a year, more than $600 million in annual energy costs, and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of more than 800,000 cars.
-Recycling 1 aluminum can saves enough energy to run your TV for 3 hours.
-More than 36% of the fiber used to make new paper products in the United States comes from recycled sources.
-In 2008, a record 53.4 percent of the paper consumed in the U.S. was recovered for recycling. Americans recovered an extraordinary 53.5 million tons, averaging 360 pounds per person.
-Americans threw away 38 billion plastic water bottles in 2006
A million and a half barrels of oil - enough to fuel 100,000 cars for a year - were used to produce the bottles2.
-Aluminium dumped into our landfills today will remain there for over 200 years.
-Glass is 100% recyclable and can go from the recycling bin to a store shelf in as little as 30 days!
-Approximately 80% of recycled glass containers are made into new glass bottles and glass can be reused an infinite number of times.
-Batteries contain heavy metals such as mercury, nickel, lead and cadmium, which can leak into the ground and contaminate the environment if improperly disposed of.
-Each year Americans throw away 25 trillion Styrofoam cups. This is enough to circle the earth 436 times. 4 Imagine how much Styrofoam we could keep out of our environment if we all carried travel mugs to use when purchasing hot beverages.
As you have seen, recycling can help us take an enormous step towards conserving our world's resources and energy supplies as well as limiting the amount of greenhouse gasses and other pollutants released into the atmosphere. Although it may seem like we are just tiny parts of this vast planet, each one of us really can make a significant difference by making these small and simple changes in our day-to-day activities and in the disposal of our waste products.

Going Green is So Chic.
How can you not give in?

It seems like everyone is "going green" these days and popular clothing stores aren't ones to fall behind. Victoria Secret has set out a whole "Going Green" line within their Pink line for girls. These T-Shirts contain "Recyclable Friendly Message" and are very inexpensive. Other popular stores like Forever 21 and Target have also added these "Going Green" clothing styles to their racks. "Going Green" is a worldwide epidemic!
Get Creative
Recycling is ART.

Italian designer Marcella Foschi has developed a quite clever way to recycle cassette tapes: a product material that exists in abundance but is associated with a dying (or dead) technology. Her coin purses are at least cute (if not collectible) and appropriate a material we all know, love and have stopped using.
Recycle-ble School Supplies!
You can even go green in school!

The Remarkable product design team has created a series of colorful and useful versions of traditional products made out of unusual recycled materials. Their approach is quite simple yet compelling: they brand individual products with information about their origins. This makes for conversation pieces but also raises awareness about the origins and potential of composite recycled materials.

Seventeen's List of Green Celebs :)
1) BRAD PITT- Actor Brad Pitt is helping to rebuild Katrina-ravaged New Orleans - and donating $5 million of his own money - to Make It Right (makeitrightnola.org), an adopt-a-green-home campaign that he hopes will help restore the still storm-ravaged Lower 9th Ward. For every $150,000 that comes in, a family will get a home. And not just any house - these will be so eco-friendly and disaster-proof, they'll even float!
2)HAYDEN PANETTIERE- When Hayden Panettiere turned 18, she skipped all-night partying, and instead spent the day registering to vote with Declare Yourself, a nonprofit campaign encouraging newly legals to exercise their political power. Then, on TV tabloid shows this past October, we caught Panettiere's tearful breakdown in Japan's waters after a failed dolphin-saving mission. She's definitely earned some green cred, and we can't wait to see this Hero's next move!
3)AMANDA BYNES- Hairspray's Amanda Bynes credits her parents for stoking her charitable nature by spending their holidays feeding the homeless. Now the 21-year-old actress incorporates volunteering into everyday life by raising money for causes, rebuilding parks, and doing anything else she can to help. "If you start [volunteering] young, you'll always have a love for it," she said in an interview.
4)HILARY DUFF- Hilary Duff makes headlines these days not by mugging for mugshots like many of her peers, but by being a philanthropic soul. "When I first heard about how civilization is closing in on these wild mustangs," she said, "I knew I wanted to get involved." Duff, who's a supersuccessful clothing/accessory designer for her eponymous label, is also active in USA Harvest, a group that collects surplus food from restaurants and suppliers to deliver to missions and soup kitchens.

9)JOHN MAYER-Our planet is a wonderland! John Mayer has joined up with Reverb, an enviro org, to help him make his summer tour totally green. 10)JOSH HARTNETT-Superhottie Josh Hartnett is active in Global Cool, a charity that's trying to get 1 billion people to reduce their carbon footprints over the next 10 years. If you're gonna learn about CO2, having a cutie like Josh teach you is the best way to learn!
11)KRISTEN BELL-She may have all the juicy gossip, but did you know that this Gossip Girl is a vegetarian? Or at least the actress who does her voice-overs is. Kristen Bell may be Veronica Mars, but she's all about saving this planet. For the 2008 Farm Sanctuary gala and auction, Kristen offered up a lunch with herself to raise money to end cruelty to animals. No word on what she's doing about cruelty from Blair Waldorf.
12)MARY-KATE OLSEN-Though she's been known to sport all kinds of crazy furs, Mary-Kate is still totally invested in helping the environment. She's part of the Environmental Media Association, which invented the "green carpet." What does that mean? It means they've got celebs taking hybrid and electric cars to award shows and parties! Don't you wanna see MK (and Ashley!) pulling up in a Prius?
13)NATALIE PORTMAN-Natalie's jumped on the trend of celeb-designed fashion lines, but she's doing it the eco way! She's created her own line of vegan shoes. They're supercute, superstylish, and no animals were harmed in the making of them! Natalie also made the documentary Saving a Species: Gorillas on the Brink, with animal expert Jack Hanna, about preserving the habitats of African mountain gorillas. Now, that's one way to mix star power, style, and the environment!

Everyone can help make a difference, but it all begins with YOU. Remember it only takes one person to make a change!! GO FOR IT tell everyone to-Take charge and recycle at home
-Collect cans and bottles, then take them to a recycling center to exchange it for money.
-Save electricity, IE: turn off the tv before you fall asleep, dont keep the lights on if your not in the room
-Choose items that arent heavily pacakged, less wrapping , smaller boxes.
-The one that we've known since we we're little, Don't keep the water running while you brush your teeth.
-Walk, ride a bike, or take the bus instead of driving your car.
-Donate your clothing instead of throwing it away.
-Buy Recycled paper and print on both sides.
-Buy rechargable batteries
-Don't throw recyclable items in the trash can, put them in their respective recycling container
-Purchase items which can be reused like rewritable cd's or Coffee mugs instead of styrafom coffee cups
-Don't dispose of things which can be used for other purposes, IE: an old ragged shirt can be used as a mop.
-Buy eco-friendly products, which can easily be recycled or decomposed when thrown away.
-Instead of using plastic bags at the groccery store, you can buy the reusable green bags which will save gallons of crude oil. Just by buying one reusable bag you save the world from pollution due to its production and then you save the world from dumping more garabge.
These are small little things both YOU AND I can do. If saving our Earth isn't motivation enough for you then let RECYCLING help make you a little ca$h. Collect bottles and cans in return for money!
Spread the Word!
It all beings with YOU!
