Poetry For and From the Soul
A collection of poems reflecting the journey towards knowing thyself
By Patricia Sanders
Poetry For and From the Soul is an eclectic collection of poetry from author Patricia Sanders. In this work, the author touches upon themes such as love and loss, but also has elements of nature and the passage of time. In "Time Says," the author draws a parallel between the passage of time and the end of a relationship.
Time says
Goodbye
Standing there
Fake stones
Avoiding the sun
My face
Shocked by
The coldness
Of the air
Stood silent
And fell
To pieces
Likewise in "Through the River," natural elements are used to embrace the somber tone of her mood.
You
That I left
Behind
Suddenly
Drift along
A boat that sails
Through
The river
Of my mind
"Poetry For and From the Soul" is and intriquing collection of poetry that may appeal to a wide variety of readers.

Love's Journey
Love's Journey has a section in it called the Knowing that is poetry. The first half is a story, nonfiction, about my personal journey to love in journal form. There is sexual content in this book.******************************************
Love's Journey
A journey of discovering one's self through love
Love's Journey is a journal of discovery about myself through love and it's many experiences. I learned that love is but a
mirror or reflection that life brings to you
with many faces and in different ways.
You kiss me
And
I melt into you
Strong oceans
Devouring my
Ability to walk away
Falling like
Raindrops from the sky
Fall in open May
The Knowing came about as time brought me to a transformation in my life that I have been going through for the past two years. I lived a life of struggle and what appeared to be one disappointment after another. I finally surrendered after my third divorce to a man I married twice. Having to revisit heartache once again I asked God to show me what to do as I realized that up to this point I had not found any sense of contentment within. I did much soul searching, meditated and prayed my way through this. One day I awoke with a new sense of awe and enchantment that has followed me ever since. I have a new peace inside of me that I have never known before. Life is a gift, love is a gift and I have a new appreciation for life that sustains me. I am now married to a man who is different than any relationship of my past.
"Things do not change; we change." ~Henry David Thoreau
Acknowledgements:
I want to acknowledge my husband first and foremost. His love is a bright spot in my life and better than anything I have ever experienced. He has always supported my writing and believed in me. You are a gift in my life.
I want to acknowledge Kathryn Leeman, my spiritual teacher in my twenties. She taught me much with her knowledge and wisdom. It was from her I first began to learn about the human shadow, mirrors, the ways of the warrior, the healer, the visionary and the teacher. I want to acknowledge, also, the women I sat beside as I learned these things. I learned much through your passing through my life.
I want to acknowledge those I have loved as you were also my teachers, showing me how to love and how to be, bringing me to the realization that you were there with me as a reflection of where I was at that time. You were my gifts including my first and second husband and men who were boyfriends, and most especially my mother and my daughters who have been my most difficult teachers of all in my quest for loving myself.
Excerpt
Self-acquaintance is a rare condition."
~ Robert Henri
Tonight was good and bad. I don't feel sad right now though, which is odd. I went to a meeting. Steve walked in ten minutes before the meeting would start. I was sitting at a table in the club. When he walked in I know I lit up like a Christmas tree. As soon as he came in the door he saw me sitting there. His eyes lit up too. We both smiled. I got up, he came towards me and we hugged. Then I said I want to make love to you which makes me remember what started all of this between us. It was when he and I were friends and he came up to me and said I want to make mad, passionate love to you. That kind of statement certainly turns my head from a man I find attractive. Anyways, when I said I wanted to make love to him he said I don't know, I'll think about it. I just stood there after buying a water and then he whispered to me, "What about tomorrow?" I told him I can't. He ended up saying okay to tonight. We made love twice, we kissed, we talked for a few hours.

The Knowing
A place upon the path of intimacy-
I began writing poetry at the age of 12. I did not know it would aid me in discovering a new intimacy with my own spirit, teaching me about love and revealing to me who I am on the path of knowing thyself.Meditation further aided me in this process which took me to the depths of my own shadow and back again into my light with a newfound sense of peace and a wisdom I would have not had otherwise.
I believe that all that has been my life, all the heartache, the love I have known has been the path I was meant to go down to learn about myself. You cannot truly know another unless you know yourself.
Though not an easy journey, I am grateful for the destination I have now arrived at.

A THOUGHT TO BRING
Must it always make sense?
This life with its many windows
Must a sea always turn to wave?
View this shore in your island
The expectancy of birth
Will often result in new growth
No matter what part of the tree you are today
If you are lucky and have listened well
You will become the flower
That bears fruits
Of wisdom
Food for the soul
A thought to bring to this table of life
For many to share and rejoice
A warmth that encompasses the lonely masses
Do not question what you shall do next
Just move along and call forth
The divine to show you the way
The light will lead you on
To your journeys destination
Where you will finally see that
All along you were going in the right direction
******************************
MAGNIFICENCE
Time will reveal the reasons why
Life unfolds the way it does
Do not waste your thoughts on this
Contemplation
Being is what is most important
Be that which you aspire to be
Or use your time to travel to this
Destination
If another does not understand the steps
You have taken
This is none of your business
Go forth and spread your wings
As though you have a mission
To fly to a mighty land
For in the end
This is what we truly came for
To remember our
Magnificence

VANITY'S ALLURE
The place of ego
I know it well
It's been my friend, a lover
The words that kept me
From moving forward
Kept me from going up when I was down
Created illusions that comforted me
Showed me doors
With superficial treasures
What grace brought me to this authenticity?
What gift showed me the right road, the correct path to the door of this peace
I now know?
I am not sure
Still the ego's trappings remain a friend to me
The billionaire's song
Vanity's allure
The knock upon the door
That says
Come in
Old friend

THE BUTTERFLY'S SONG
The spiritual path
Full of twists and turns
A road upon the map of the soul
The destination usually a transformation of sorts
The butterfly's song
A school of review
That begins timidly
Toes in the water, a testing to see
How it feels
Then comes the time when we must dive in
To the pool of lessons
A place of uncertainty, the roller coaster ride
Taking us along
A soul ready comes through this tunnel
To a renewal of spirit
Light being cast
Applause rings out
As the universe celebrates
The new birth

poet
I have been writing poetry since I was young. It seemed to be a way to express my thoughts. I wrote words that would flow, sometimes I would be surprised reading some of my poems such as this one called "An Oak's Breath"An Oak's Breath
A wind this way does blow
A song this way does sing
A voice this way does speak
Of simpler things, not weak
A tongue upon my cheek
It is clarity I do seek
Of a tomorrow no longer bleak
Of you I do bequeathe
All that knows how to breathe
And life remains a soothing sound
My soul grows strong
An oak's breath- a sweet scent
In a mountain I have lived
No more sorrow
I have found the gold
The search for which I did seek
The words have come quickly and as though through me rather than from me and at other times they have come from my heart. Either way they brought me a new intimacy with my own spirit and helped me in knowing thyself.
I have been meditating alone and in groups since I was a teenager and long before the "the Secret" I used intentions and positive affirmations to aid me in my life, I have been doing that since I was a teenager. I have been studying metaphysics since I was a teenager as well. I have been doing reiki since my mid twenties.
I continue to write poetry and have recently published a book with my daughter's artwork which I think is very good art and my poetry.
I am married and live in Oregon with my husband and three daughters, plus our two dogs and recently acquired chickens.

Food for the Soul
delicious whole wheat bread recipe
We all need food for our soul, something that speaks to us, sustains us, pulls us through, inspires us, comforts us. There are many things that can be. It is different for everyone. What feeds your soul? Make a list and let it inspire you to do things that feed your soul everyday. Here is a delicious homemade whole wheat bread recipe my husband and I make. Cooking or baking can feed your soul. Put love into your food when you are preparing and cooking your food and it can actually feed your sensuality.
ENJOY SOME HOMEMADE FOOD FOR THE SOUL
100% Whole Grain Wheat Bread
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 36 minutes
Ready In: 3 hours
Yields: 2 Loaves
If you like fluffy brown bread this it. No white flour here. You can use any 100% whole grain wheat flour. I mill my own. This bread is not heavy like most 100% whole wheat breads. If it is you used too much flour and your dough was too stiff. If it flattens out and won't stand up you need more flour. The total amount of flour is usually about 6 1/2 cups. This recipe has been in my family for years and we all make it. We make a lot more now that we have powerful mixers and the hand kneeding is bye bye.
INGREDIENTS:
2 1/2 Cups of hot water
1/4 Cup of Oil, Olive is fine
1/4 Cup of honey
2 Tbs Molasses
1 Tbs Salt, Sea Salt is good
6 1/2 cups of 100% Whole Grain Wheat Flour
2 1/2 Tbs of Dry Active Yeast
DIRECTIONS:
1. Place the first five ingredients in the bowl and mix.
2. Add: 2 Cups 100% Whole Grain Wheat Flour. Mix then add 2 Tbs of Dry Active Yeast. If your not sure about your yeast proof it in a little warm water first.
3. Add: 4 Cups of 100% Whole Grain Wheat Flour.
4. Mix until the consistency is some what even. Then continue to slowly add flour 1/4 Cup at a time until the dough quits sticking to the sides of the bowl. It should be tacky to the touch. The trick is to have enough consistency to stand up with the least amount of flour so the bread will be fluffy. In any case do not exceed 7 1/2 cups of wheat flour. You can trade one cup of wheat flour for one cup of all purpose white if you wish. Don't over mix or the bread will be tough.
5. When your dough is finished, Cover the bowl and let it rise for about 30-45 minutes. The dough will be larger but it doesn't need to double when using a heavy mixer.
6. Grease two bread pans with Crisco. You can also flour the pans to reduce sticking.
7. Mix again just enough to knock it down at least close to the original size.
8. Drop the dough on a floured surface so you can work the dough and shape it. Roll it in theflour and shape it in your hands to make a nice ball getting enough flour on it so it isn't sticky. Divide the ball in half and do it again. Shape the loaves by turning the dough under it's self over and over. When the dough is shaped right the sides and ends will be sealed and all you will see is a nice oblong shaped loaf with smooth sides and top. Drop the loaves in your bread pans and let them rise until almost doubled. Bake in a preheated oven at 350 for 36 minutes. If you forgot to preheat 41 minutes. (gas oven)
9. When done turn the bread out of the pan to a rack to cool. You can eat it right away (a great time for real butter) don't wrap it until completely cooled. (Condensation will make it soggy) Put in tinfoil to store on the counter. If you put it in the refrigerator it will turn into a brick. Enjoy.

My own image
Staring at me

Disturbing
The fantasy of illusion
Others are but a mirror
This poetry is a reflection
about the journey of love.
Poetry has been a form of
journaling for me, a place to learn
about love.
Becoming more intimate with others has
brought me an intimacy with my own spirit which is
ultimately what we are learning about when we experience love with another. It teaches us about who we are and are not, what we want and don't want. I believe we are really learning to love ourselves as we experience loving others.
The Collective

The learning
I discover
The many parts that make the whole
Encompassing the heart
Of humanity
In the palm of my hand
I reach the destination
Reborn by this epiphany
That deep down
In the center
Of myself
Is
All others

Death
This poem is in Jewels of Awe and is written about my stepdad's death
Or hear your laughter
As days go by
I remember you still
As you were
When you were still here
With swollen tears
And a heart that aches
I'll never again
Feel your embrace
Even though your spirit is here
It's just not the same
As hearing your voice
And seeing you near
No more tomorrows
Will hold you
Only yesterday remains
Yet the sun still sets
and the stars burn bright
The morning becomes day
The day becomes night
But you are not here
And the sorrow and pain
That death can claim
Bring heavy hands
It's just not the same
And I wish that you were still here
With footsteps light
And laughter long

Create You!
There are endless possibilites on creating you. Let the world be your canvas and your inspiration. When you put the intention out there of what you would like to be, life follows this thought and the universe hears you.
Don't play it small
Create you!
You are the author of your own life.
Imagine a clean slate for your life, a brand new canvas. Start from scratch and create a masterpiece, something you will treasure and love. Let that treasure be you, your life. Make it beautiful, fun, creative, happy or anything that comes to mind

Create yourself

Treasure chest
What is in your treasure chest?
What are the treasures you have picked up along the way in your life? Life goes by so quickly as we go about our day.
Take the time to treasure the jewels that come along in your life.
Keep a journal and write down what you find as a treasure each day.
One of my treasures is the Starfish Story by Loren Eisley.
The Starfish Story Original Story by: Loren Eisley One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, "What are you doing?" The youth replied, "Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them back, they'll die." "Son," the man said, "don't you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can't make a difference!" After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said%u2026" I made a difference for that one."

POETRY FROM JOURNEY OF A WOMAN
EON'S PATH
The tatterings of the orange blossom
In full bloom
Catching the flow
Of the mountains ascension
The darkness descends
Crossing aeon's path
To the witched mountain
Where ablaze they stand
Gowned in white
Their hands of light
With a vivid view
Eyes wide open
Eyes brand new
Here, I will sing
Here, I will look at you
In the fire of my soul
The dancing flame
No sword in my hand
Just a heart where I stand
No armor to bare
Nakedly aware
My soul it is I share
My soul it is I bare
Whence upon I followed
The Christed form

BLEND
We make love
With no awareness
Of time
Or outside
Forgetful of the world
And it's reasoning
It's pace
No sense of other people
Existing inside
A world of you and me
Of oneness
Of merging flames
The scenery disappeared
Our flesh touching
Melted into air
We became pure spirit
Entwined
****************************
COURTING
We walk
Hand in hand
Oblivious to the shadow
Courting the synergy of
What has always been
There
A sure smile
A lover's symphony
I spoke
To your heart
For it called me
With it's brave intensity
And in passing months
I swam it's
Deep ocean
You spoke
To my heart
For it called you
It's own
Rising
Of desire
And love's breath

ENCHANTED
Birds sing sweeter
Trees dance
Through the wind
The sky glistens
Sunlight fills the day
The moon becomes my face
Stars burn brighter
Bees don't sting
Flowers become
Beautiful colors of delight
Dancing on light
Everything
Looks sweet
To my sight

I thought
I might know
But I don't
And so
I'll tend
To my garden
And see
What there
Might grow

INNER CHILD
You
So sweet and innocent
A heart open
To the world
Unafraid
Your beauty untouched
Play, little one, play
The sparrow sings today
I honor you
Inner child
Loving
With no prejudice
How beautiful you are
As you dance
To the sound
Of sunlight
How I love you
Sweet one
How I do

JOY'S BIRTH
I dreamt
I gave birth
To joy
And I fed her
As she grew
Into her fullness
Her smile
Opened hearts
Her presence
Inspired a world
That had forgotten
She existed
She taught many
As she aged
Showing them
That beauty
And love
Peace and happiness
Did not need to be searched for
Or bought
But lived in their own hearts
Where they touched
God's grace

LAS VEGAS IN JULY
Us
In our air conditioned
Rental car
Driving that endless road
Through the heat
The sun beating down
So hot%u2026
The pavement should melt
Until
Bright lights appear
Casinos everywhere
We reach our destination
Park our car
Get out
Go to a small chapel
Say I do
While elevators go
Up and down
And the greed people
Fills the air
So heavy
That I fear
If I stayed here in this city
Long enough
It would steal
The life from me
But you and I are visitors
Happy
Just to be with Each other
We hold hands
When we are walking
Kiss when we are talking
And leave this thickness
To go to our home
Which is anywhere
You are and I am

LONELY HIGHWAY
Left in the dust
Tail lights
Being all
I can see
On a lonely highway
Bewildered by
The blow of all
I forgot to ackno
