We all know where we want to go but the problem most of us face is knowing exactly how to get there. I, for one am in favor of having a gadget which will simplify life's everyday complications, wouldn't you agree?
The gadget I'm referring to is the Garmin gps navigator. You know where you want go, why not elliminate the stress and guess work when driving there. It won't matter if you're on a business trip, a vacation or running around town doing some errands.
Let's clear-up a term that is widely misinterpreted (refurbished).
A vehicle gps will make a great gift for anyone you know who drives. Whether it be a Christmas gift, birthday gift, graduations or just because you love them.Â

Manufacturer's Loss Is Your Gain
So the gps device is sent back to the producer because a crack was found in the screen. The maker will replace the screen making the device like new. Then the refurbished gps will be redistributed at a discounted price.
Many times a flaw is discovered before distribution by one of the manufactures quality control inspectors and refurbished.
If the gps device is sold and then returned, whether it has a flaw in it or not. It must then be sold as a used gps navigator. So you see, a refurbished gps is not the same as a used gps.
Why not let the manufacturer's loss can be your gain? Products will sometimes get damaged during shipping it's a fact of doing business from the producer's point of view. Throwing the slightly damaged product away is not good business.
What this means for you. Instead of a total loss the maker of these gps navigators is willing to fix the gadget like new and sell it at a discount. Sometimes more than 40%. This mishap helps you buy the product for less with the same benefits you would get with the new product.

My refurbished Garmin gps arrived looking brand new in the factory box with all of the original accessories. After just a few minutes of reviewing the manual, I was up and running. A few weeks later, I took the unit on a business trip to Miami. I'd pre-programmed the addresses of my company offices and it took me right there with no problems. I especially liked the ease of which I could scan for restaurants closest to my current location!
Great GPS for the Price Range

We bought this GPS system because we make a lot of trips to San Francisco, Napa, Sonoma, and the rest of the Bay Area. It has made it nice for when we just want to get away and not worry about how to get back to the interstate. My wife is not that good with maps or directions, so with it, she is able to go to the city and with the voice speaking out the names of the street, it allows her to get where she needs to be easily.
Great Buy Refurbished Item

I purchased the Garmin Nuvi 255W Unit. It arrived in a factory box and packaging and showed no signs of being a refurbished unit. I have not had a chance to use it on a road trip however, I have had it out and tried it in my neighborhood and it works fine. It did have to be reset once I received. It took a bit more time figuring out how to reset because the owners manuel was for a different Garmin. It came with everything except a carrying case for those who are curious. I am so far very pleased with the furbished deal I made.
Nice unit but where are the free maps?

I bought this on the advice of a friend and figured I'd save myself a few dollars with a refurbished unit. Reading the comments here it looked like you got a free map update so what was there to lose? Sadly when I plugged the unit it to register I did get a firmware update (of some kind) but no free maps so it is stuck on the 2009 version.
Other than that the unit is great, looks new, love the scree and the features, a bargain for the money.
Were it not for the old maps it would be a 5* rating for sure.
UPDATE: After sending Garmin a copy of my Amazon receipt they enabled the free map upgrade for our GPS. 5 stars for Garmin customer service.
A great help when in unfarmilure areas
Worked like a charm. Made our vacation much more enjoyable. Found everything we ask of it. Very easy to use. I am over 70 and got going right out of the box. dv from texas.
