So you want to register a domain?
You've come to the right place! I review some of the top domain registrars including GoDaddy, Moniker, Enom, NameCheap, and DomainSite on terms of services and support. I will also list some domain registrars to avoid, and why.
GoDaddy
GoDaddy is currently the top domain registrar in terms of domains registered there. GoDaddy is well known for their industry-leading support, offering e-mail and phone support 24 hours a day, and 7 days a week. They are known for calling you up if a domain of yours is near expiration, which is very helpful if you don't check your e-mail often. With the use of coupon codes, you can lower prices of domain registrations to very affordable prices. Search around for them, and you'll find coupon codes for various extensions and bulk purchases. I would highly recommend this registrar, especially for the beginner. Check out GoDaddy Rocks for the latest GoDaddy-related news and coupon codes! Moniker
Moniker is well known for their high security, and the fact that not a single name has been hijacked from their registrar. They are very popular among domainers because of the security, and quality personal support. Although Moniker's prices are a little high at first (around $14 per year for .com's), being a member of popular domain forums such as NamePros or DNForum (paid forum) will give you leverage is requesting special pricing, which is usually around $6.95 per year for a .com. I would highly recommend this registrar for seasoned domainers who hold premium names, and are looking for security in their registrar of choice. Enom
Enom is very popular among domain resellers because of their competitive prices and the ability to create subaccounts for clients, profiting off of each domain registered under you. A $6.95 account is the lowest possible pricing, and requires a $6950 deposit which goes toward your account balance. This system is designed for individuals or companies with a large amount of domains. Enom does have a partner company which does not require a deposit at Enom Central, however prices are quite expensive, costing $30 per year for a basic .com registration. I would not recommend Enom for people holding a small amount of domains, as much better pricing is available elsewhere. NameCheap
NameCheap is a quality domain registrar, with great support, under great leadership. Don't let the fact that it is an Enom reseller turn you off. Although they don't have a support phone number, they do have e-mail support which has reasonable response times. Basic .com registrations start at $8.88 per year. They offer a monthly coupon which reduces the price to $7.99 per year. Although you can get better prices elsewhere, NameCheap is still a great registrar. I'd recommend them if you're just buying a few domains, are large portfolio holders. DomainSite
DomainSite is not so well known, but it's a registrar worth checking out. Support is very slow, and sends canned and useless responses to support requests. Despite the weak support, you'll rarely need it. DomainSite offers a wide selection of ccTLDs and is very popular among IDN-oriented domainers, because of the IDNs available in several extensions and languages. Prices start at $6.99 for basic .com registrations. I'd recommend them if you're looking for a basic registrar for a few domains. Registerfly
Registerfly, now stripped of its ICANN-accreditation, is the WORST registrar you can possibly choose. Apparently they are still open for business, and stealing thousands of dollars per day from unsuspecting customers. Do not order anything from them! See Registerflies for more information on the demise of Registerfly. Conclusion
In conclusion, there are many great registrars for you to choose from. GoDaddy if you're a beginner, Moniker if you're looking for security in your domains, and a few other solid choices like NameCheap and DomainSite. Check out DNDough.com for more information about making money with domains.
