Diary Of A Reiki Master

Reiki is a gentle, intelligent, healing energy, that strengthens, relaxes, and energizes your body. The word Reiki means, life force energy that is spiritually guided. The key here is the "spiritually guided" part. Not only does this mean that Reiki can do no harm, it also means that for the people working with it, it is far more than just healing energy, it is rather a spiritual experience.

One can never really know Reiki until they have experienced it and everyone has the ability to do just that. Reiki is a gift from the Universe to humanity, a gift that can reach into the inner most recesses and ignite a flame within. No two people will ever see Reiki in exactly the same way as each individual's experiences color their perception and understanding of what Reiki is and how it works.

For me Reiki was the first step on an ascending stairway leading to my awakening, for others I know it has been the only step needed or wanted. Whether you find Reiki to be merely a pit stop in your life, a way of Be-ing, or something in between, the experience is always uniquely personal.

Reiki first crossed my path in a strange way. I was working a booth at a Pet Fair and the woman next to me was doing Reiki on the animals. I had my golden retriever Durango, who was recovering from Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever with me in the booth. Throughout the day I watched in amazement as he would go over to this woman and in his own way ask for treatment. She would put her hands on him and he would hold perfectly still for a few minutes and then move away as if he were done. She had described Reiki to me already and I thought it sounded very weird, but as I watched my dog repeatedly going to her that day I had to wonder if there wasn't something to it. A few years later when my dog had a suspicious tumor I went to her and asked for Reiki treatments. I still thought Reiki sounded weird but I was willing to do anything that would help him. She convinced me to take Reiki training so that I could treat him daily myself. I was so nervous, not believing for a moment that I had any healing powers. What I have learned since then is that we all have healing abilities that are just waiting to be activated and the Reiki Attunement does just that.

From the moment of my attunement my body was alive with energy, I could feel it pulsing strongly within every part of me. It was such an exciting feeling! I made a comment about it to the other women in my class and they all looked at me strangely because apparently none of them felt the intense pulsing energy that I was feeling. It turns out that feeling energy or Clairsentience is my strongest healing gift, just as some people see energy, I am very sensitive to feeling energy. I love the warm tingling feeling of the energy as it flows through my body; I love being able to "feel" my way through someone's energy field. Feeling the different textures of energy, spongy, thick, angry, cold, pulsing, tickling...this is how the energy speaks to me. Reiki had awakened my awareness of these abilities and from that moment on I have been "hooked" on energy!

One is initiated into Reiki through an attunement performed by a Reiki Master, this activates dormant areas of your being allowing the Reiki energy to flow through you. Being attuned to Reiki ignites a full chakra cleansing that lasts for 21 days. At Level 1 your physical body is cleansed one chakra at a time, Level 2 cleanses the emotional body, and Level 3 sets off a spiritual cleanse. While not always pleasant, the cleanses alone are worth the attunement! Like clockwork each day, I could feel the energy move from one chakra to the next at precisely the time I had originally received the attunement. Essentially the cleanse caused me to relive and then release the problems I had experienced in my past, from whiplash at the throat chakra to migraines at the brow chakra, those old energies that were still lingering in my physical, emotional, and spiritual bodies were cleared away.

I have always loved sharing the Reiki energy with animals. Whenever I did Reiki in the beginning my dogs would crowd around each demanding a turn. It was wonderful how excepting they were of the energy (much more so then my friends and relatives at the time), because of this for a long time animals were the focus of my healing practice. Animals seem to intuitively understand that the energy is healing for them, with animals there is no ego getting in the way questioning how it works. Once I had a taste of energy healing I wanted to experience more and more, within a year I was a Reiki Master and had also ventured into sound healing with Tuning Forks, see Tuning Fork Sound Therapy

The Reiki energy gets stronger with each level and is amplified considerably by the master level. To be a Reiki Master I had to learn to use many ancient healing symbols. I remember when I was first introduced to the symbols thinking they were silly, but that was before I felt their power! I have moved on since those early days with Reiki, at times slowly advancing up the stairway, at other times bounding up several steps at a time. I have encountered healing spiritual energies that have rocked my world, but no matter how far I ascend on that stairway I will always think fondly of that very first step!
