We often need guides to a new way of life. Sometimes we need to be converted from analog to digital or from driving a Ford automobile when we're used to riding in a horse and buggy.

I know it works and I'm rather passionate about the door that leads to Reiki. My health improved (I rarely get sick anymore; I suffered a double hernia as a preschooler, and I was a sickly kid held back in kindergarten due to being sick so much).

When you think about a three year old whose guts hung out with no rhyme or reason, you might get that I grew up with a lack of confidence and suffered from anxiety. I couldn't understand the pain, what was happening to my body or why the giants and monsters around me stared. It must have been positively life-threatening. Dealing with such traumas, we can do lots of things that we're not aware of: we may leave our bodies; we may run away; we may pretend as a way of denying that anything bad happened.

With Reiki, I have more confidence. With Fairy Reiki I have the opportunity to laugh more, feel better more, notice joy and the lightness of laughing and sharing. I take chances with speaking out and taking baby (and sometimes giant) steps where I used to have to lay down and not be able to get up and walk without professional help and eventually surgery.

My cat knows it works. He's diabetic and has stabilized on insulin and a special diet with sessions from me once and awhile and visits to the vet every once in awhile.

Meanwhile, my friend's little dog, newly diagnosed as diabetic, rather tragically and quickly passed away. My friend who is an energy practitioner chose not to use Reiki, followed her own intuition on the whole thing and was a bit combative with her vet. She chose not to use a holistic vet recommended to her. Openness and allowing are good things to learn about. So is acceptance. That may have been part of her process.

My 80-something mother knows it works. She thanks me daily when she receives Reiki healing from me, the stones I've made, the wearable art shawls I made for her to cover up with. She has memory loss and a panic disorder. The world she knew is disintegrating inside and out.

Is it all balloons and roses with her? No. But Reiki does seem to bring her quiet and understanding and periods of balance and comfort. Life and choosing the door of Reiki can be one of choosing life as a process and I cannot process for her.

A caregiver's little girl tentatively and timidly chose to stand in the open door. She now knows Reiki works because she held a fairy reiki stone that I treated and then was able to give her speech. Now her mother holds a reiki stone when she comes to visit. I have no idea what that mother is dealing with in her life, and I don't need to know. Reiki goes where it's needed.
