I believe the holy Quran is the words of God. I also believe many parts of Bible are the words of God too. Not sure about other books.

THIS IS FILTHY. QUARAN WAS MISQUOTED. IT IS VERY INSIGHTFUL, AS WELL AS THE HOLLY BIBLE.

"People travel to wonder at the height of the mountains, at the huge waves of the seas, at the long course of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars, and yet they pass by themselves without wondering." - St. Augustine

I would say that my favourite one would be from the prophet Muhammed's pbuh sayings''the strong man is not the one who wrestles well ,but the strong man is the one who controls his anger when in a fit of rage"..This quote has helped me in so many occassions...

Inter-Faith tolerance based on respect of ancient heritage of humanity is the biggest challange to human surivival. As President Kennedy said, to live by inspiration that rings true to an individual and community is far better value than to know a thousand good thoughts and live an uninspired life . I start with my own culture, my own heritage as best as possible for my inspiration to tolerance, respect and knowledge for other spiritual traditions. Makes Sense ? Thanks.

Peace comes within -- don't seek it without -- this is a Buddhist quote and it inspired me to look further into the Buddhist philosophy. I discovered a treasure of wisdom -- but then there are the same treasures in every religion -- we only have to look for them and know them when we see them. Keep well! Blessed!

Oops, forgot to answer your question. The quote that comes to mind right now is something my sister reminds me of from time to time, "Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is sleep". Now others are coming to mind now, always lean toward, "Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him as righteousness and he was called the friend of God", an aspirtation of mine. Thanks for putting my mind on track....

Ahhh, plenty to meditate on here and even some humor...for some reason the pessimist quote and the frog kicking the elephant are getting my funny bone, needed a chuckle. May we all be superior to our previous self!

While there are a lot of really great Yiddish proverbs (I'm assuming that's what you mean by "Jewish Proverb") there is also a plethora of wonderful quotes in our scripture. I think it's sort of strange that you pass up all the great quotes in the Tanakh (Jewish bible).

My favorite quote is, "There is no higher religion than human service. The work for the common good is the highest creed." -Woodrow Wilson. This reminds me that life is about helping mankind. This is one reason why I became a Reiki Master. Thank you, I love the many quotes you shared!

"He deserves paradise who makes his companions laugh"

Believers, Jews, Sabaeans or Christians - whoever believes in God and the Last Day and does what is right - shall have nothing to fear or regret

it is in the quraan but it talks about everyone, sounds great though

Well, as a practitioner of Vipassana, I am always drawn to things that the Buddha is to have said, as quoted above:
"If I had even a slight awareness, and practiced the Great Way, what I would fear would be deviating from it."
Or in the words of the other great religious leader, 'we have nothing to fear but fear itself?' Franklin D Roosevelt.
I guess that I don't consider the Buddha as a religious leader, and I don't think he saw himself as one either. Though the things he said resinate with a spirituality that many religious leaders find hard to meet. http://www.squidoo.com/meditation-inner-peace
