What is LEGO?

LEGO (trademarked in capitals as LEGO) is a line of construction toys manufactured by the Lego Group, a privately held company based in Billund, Denmark. The company's flagship product, LEGO, consists of colorful interlocking plastic bricks and an accompanying array of gears, minifigures and various other parts. LEGO bricks can be assembled and connected in many ways, to construct such objects as vehicles, buildings, and even working robots. Anything constructed can then be taken apart again, and the pieces used to make other objects. The toys were originally designed in the 1940s in Denmark and have achieved an international appeal, with an extensive subculture that supports Lego movies, games, video games, competitions, and four Lego themed amusement parks.

LEGO Kits

I personally enjoyed LEGO as a kid and while many of the kits depicting film or television sets and vehicles are cool and a joy to build, I prefer stand alone bricks with odds and ends that allow me to build anything I want. That's where the real usefulness and benefit to LEGO blocks really are. It allows creativity and sharpens the mind. I like the sets too, but you are stuck with one build.

Design Your Own LEGO Kit

You can even use software to design your own kit. I tried out the software and it takes some practice but as a 3D modeler and animator I found it fun. It's free to use but it purchasing your creations is expensive. You are sent the exact pieces you need to build what you designed all in a custom box. While this is cool, unless your design is very specialized why not just buy a ton of misc Lego blocks and build it cheaper?

The software is worth checking out though.

I don't think legos could ever go out of style. Enjoyed the photos and videos, liked the lego arcade that brought back memories.

Lego is an amazing way to play and learn. Like you I prefer the stand alone blocks to create my own unique builds, I still have a couple of very large boxes of Lego which do come out from time to time. You are never too old to play with Lego. Cool lens

It's LEGO not Legos

Many people call them Legos in the plural but the correct term is LEGO not Legos. Lego or Lego Blocks is correct.
