If you are an alcohol drinker and are suffering from acid reflux, there are a lot of acid reflux remedies you can try, such as quitting alcohol all together. Alcohol lovers would often like to combine their beverage with spicy, greasy and fatty foods. The perfect combination makes the drinking perfect to the appetite. Unfortunately though, this is not beneficial for the esophagus and the stomach. The alcoholic beverage, the spicy, greasy and fatty foods cause acid reflux or also known as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). Other acid reflux causes are pregnancy, genetic influences, presence of infection in the gastrointestinal tract, and the Non-Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs).

The gastrointestinal system of the body is composed of the following: the oral cavity, the esophagus, the stomach, small intestine, large intestine and the anus. The main function of the gastrointestinal system is to digest the food, absorb digestive juices and take out undigested materials which are of course the feces.

The acid reflux affects the stomach and the esophagus. This occurs when the liquid from the stomach which carries pepsin, an irritating element relieased by the chief cells, moves to the esophagus passing through the cardiac sphincter. The cardiac sphincter refers to the the channel to the stomach from the esophagus. Its use is to prevent reflux of stomach contents because these they lead to esophageal irritation and ulcer. If the cardiac sphincter is still open after after swallowing the food, acid reflux happens.

Normally, liquid reflux in the stomach happens to a healthy individual. Still, those who have acid reflux or GERD has more acid in the liquid. This may be caused by genetic influences, specifically, an increased number of parietal cells which produce pepsin in the stomach.

The body has defenses to shield itself from the harmful results of reflux and acid. Most reflux happens at daytime when individuals are upright. In an upright position, the refluxed liquid is more likely to go back down into the stomach due to gravity. Moreover, while humans are awake, they continually swallow, regardless if a reflux is taking place or not. When individuals swallow the reflux liquid go back into the stomach. The last defensive mechanism to reflux is the salivary glands in the mouth. These glands produce saliva, which has bicarbonate. Every time an individual swallows, the bicarbonate-containing saliva moves down to the esophagus. The bicarbonate neutralizes the small amount of acid that stays in the esophagus.

Basically, acid reflux medications inhibit the production or release of pepsin created by the chief cells and hydrochloric acid manufactured by the parietal cells in the stomach. Other medicines may not do the same thing but they neutralize the acid.

As mentioned, there are many acid reflux remedies you can try, which include acid reflux medications like Histamine Blockers or H2 receptor antagonists. Histamine triggers a pump in the stomach that makes hydrochloric acid. The H2 receptor antagonists keep the histamine from stimulating this pump. They cease the production of the hydrochloric acid and so lowering the secretion and concentration into the stomach.

Another acid reflux medication is the Cimetidine which was made available in 1975. It produces a short half-life and short duration of action. The three most commonly-known H2 blockers are Ranitidine, Famotidine and Nizatidine. They are more reliable than Cimetidine because apart from ceasing gastric acid secretions, they also promote healing of the ulcer by getting rid of its cause. They also have a longer effect.

There are many acid reflux remedies you can avail of. Acid reflux medications, to sum it up, may be helpful in helping you get rid of acid reflux. But you should not rely on acid reflux medications alone, as you are better off when you implement great lifestyle changes if you want to treat acid reflux.

One Of The Best Acid Reflux Treatments: "Heartburn No More" by Jeff Martin

Acid reflux or heartburn is a condition that affects older people, men and women. It is quite hard to understand what heartburn feels like unless you have it, and the pain is so unbearable sometimes, one might mistake it for heart attack. When untreated, it could lead to serious complications.
Several precautionary measures have been taught, but such are not enough to permanently treat it. That's right, heartburn sufferers want a permanent solution which they need to stop heartburn forever, without ever using drugs.

Many books have been written about curing heartburn the natural way, but what seems to stand out among them is "Heartburn No More" by Jeff Martin.

Written by Jeff Martin, he is a medical researcher for nearly 17 years, so you can rest assured that he know what he's talking about. But what is good about this book is that, he was an acid reflux sufferer himself, just like you, and his condition was something his doctor told him will not be treated. So, using his background in holistic health and medical research, for 11 years he has researched every book on heartburn, interviewed numerous heartburn experts and doctors, and experimented, experimented and experimented.

This book, in short, is the result of his 11 years of trial and error, experimentation and research, so what you'll see the exact step-by-step method you'll be following to stop heartburn and cure it forever.

Written in simple, easy-to-understand terms, this book is concisely- written and teaches you about acid reflux and what really causes it, so even people like you with no medical background can easily understand. He then goes on with explaining what you should eat and why, and why acid reflux drugs simply don't work. There are many more things and you will learn from this book that might even be a discovery to you, and I'm not surprised, because many other past customers have found it a very reliable, irreplaceable guide they are grateful for.

But while it has helped hundreds of past customers heal their heartburn, "Heartburn No More" is NOT a magic pill you can rely on to wipe out your heartburn and say goodbye to forever. It requires action on your part. It may lay down the plan you need to follow, but if you don't have discipline to follow what it says, any effort on your part will fail. So, in other words, this book is only for the disciplined and determined people who want to cure their heartburn forever while willing enough to commit their efforts to it.

"Heartburn No More" has 8 bonuses, including a FREE 3-month consultation with the author, which will allow you to ask him anything about heartburn. This alone is worth hundreds of dollars!
