I would love that Sears Catalog book, everybody back then lived by their Sears Catalog, especially if you did not live in the big cities! Great lens.

    Hello, love your lens!
  • KokoTravel Dec 30, 2010 @ 6:10 pm | delete
As much as I love the fifties... I wish that I had been a teenager at the time, rather than a baby. Thanks for the retro splash.

What I love most from the 1950's is not the music or fashion but really the home decor! My great-aunt house was a real 50's museum and it was beautiful. From the tripod lamp to the atomic curtains. One day, I will have at least a room completely done as in the 50's.

Yes, I remember the malt shop! It was a special treat to get to go to Bo's Dairy Bar for malts which was once in a great while. All the stools were low and were in pastel colors. Once Shelly and I fought over a pink one and it ended up that neither one of us got to sit on it. That was hard and the malt didn't taste quite as good that time. We never fought about it again! Sweet!

    Nice trip down memory lane.

Sounds like such a fun time. My Dad restored a car from the 50's and it's really fun to sit in with the top down.

I only caught 5 years in the 50s so I don't remember much about the outside world at that time!
  • suny51 Oct 14, 2010 @ 5:31 am | delete
Means a lot to me as I was born in '51, was lot of fun as this wasn't as crowded and selfish those days.{1951 - Music, Movies and Cars} Love it.

It was 20 years before I was born, but I always loved 1950s print advertising and typography :)

Love it...was born in the early fifties and enjoyed reading about this era. Have a happy memory of it. Life was simpler and lovelier...nostalgia has its own color.
  • d-artist Aug 8, 2010 @ 1:07 pm | delete
What fun it was in the 50's, we had little but were happy, life was simpler and I miss that.
  • Gloriousconfusion Jul 3, 2010 @ 4:57 am | delete
What fun! I was a teenager then, and had the first Elvis Presley and "Cry" Johnny Ray records - my father wouldn't let me play them when he was in the house, saying that they were decadent.

I was born in 1957, so my earliest memories are of the 60s. The 50s though did have some classic movies, and of course it was the I Love Lucy decade.

I didn't grow up in the 50's but I love the era! My favorite car to this day is included here, the '55 Chevy 2 dr hardtop with the Bel Air body. Thank you for reminding us what a wonderful era it was.

I grew up in Germany, in the 50s and 60s. Can you believe it - we didn't have malt shops and drive-thrus. We adored everything "Amerika", back then: music, blue jeans, hula-hoop...fun memories. 5*s
