How To Prevent A Computer Crash
9 Ways to Keep Your Nightmares Only In Your Dreams
2. If you're noticing that your computer is freezing more than usual, check your disk space to make sure you have enough. To do this select "my computer" from your desktop, right click on your C drive and choose "properties". A good rule of thumb is to keep at least 500 meg of storage free. If you are running low, delete unused programs or invest in an additional hard drive.
3. Back up your files frequently. There are many different programs available which will backup your files via the internet, so you don't need to take up space at home. Visit www.Mozy.com for more information regarding remote backup.
4. When backing up your data, make sure you have a program that is compatible with your operating system. I.e.: If you have a Mac, look into Mac backup. This will help your computer be as safe as possible.
5. Regularly update your anti-virus protection program. Make sure this is running on a daily basis to protect against infiltration of any viruses that may enter your computer via email, downloading, etc.
6. Make it a habit to save your work frequently. Some programs have a setting that you can adjust how frequently it will automatically save, but if not, make it a point to save at least every 10 minutes.
7. Watch for automatic updates for your operating system. Computer systems are continually coming out with new and improved versions of what you already have and often they'll offer free downloads. Keep an eye out for these and make sure your computer is kept up-to-date.
8. You may need to consult a computer junkie for this one, but make sure your computer settings are such that no one can access or modify registry or system settings except for you.
9. Although this may seem insignificant compared to the rest, make sure your computer is kept out of direct light, dust free, and in a place that is free from moisture.
