Remove Antivirus 2011/XP Antivirus 2011

The first thing you should do when a virus is located on your computer is run a full system scan on your computer to see if your internet security software is picking up any virus's.
The internet security software that i would recommend would be:
AVG free edition
AVG Pro
Norton Internet Security
McAfee

If your internet security software does not pick up on the virus or cannot erase the virus then i recommend that you download a free software package called Spybot: Search and Destroy.

Once downloaded run a scan on your system (check for problems) and if it finds anything that shouldn't be there most of the time it will give the option to heal (recovery) effected files which will delete any virus that it has picked up straight away.

Spybot is my choice of software for removing infections from my system, however from doing my research another program that is highly recommended is Spyware Doctor. ( A Link to download this software is below )

If the first 2 steps have failed to remove the virus from your system then you have definitely got a nasty virus on your system and you will manually have to delete the infected files. WARNING !!!! Going into your computers registry can cause permanent damage to your system. This method is recommended for experienced users only !!!!

This step is split up into 3 stages: This example is how to remove antivirus 2011

1) Open task manager (ctrl + Alt + Delete) and "end process" to av2011.exe
2) WARNING!! Open Regedit (Start, type/select "run" and then type 'regedit"
ii) Locate HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run "av2011.exe" and delete all components of "av2011.exe"
iii) Exit out of regedit
3) Remove existing traces of av2011:
ii) Go to programs, right click on av2011 and open file located. Delete ALL files in this folder.
iii) Go to control panel select add or remove program and if you locate av2011 uninstall the program off your system

Finally Restart your machine

1) Go to Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and delete ALL entries that have a random name .exe (e.g. h3833n3n3.exe)
2) WARNING, Go to Start- type/select "Run" and type regedit.
ii) Locate and delete:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.exe\shell
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.exe\shell\open
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.exe\shell\open\command
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.exe\shell\runas
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.exe\shell\runas\command
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.exe\shell\start
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.exe\shell\start\command
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\pezfile
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\pezfile\DefaultIcon

iii) Search for any remaining traces of xp antivirus 2011 in program files/control panel

Finally restart your machine

Once completed and removed it wouldn't hurt to run a system scan with Internet Security/Spybot:Search and Destroy or Spyware Doctor just to make sure everything has been removed
