Steps to speed up your slow computer
1.Remove Startup programs for faster Boot UP
There are a lot of programs like Instant messengers, Microsoft office etc that when you install them will start right a long with your PC. Most of the are unnecessary and do nothing more than slow your computer.
Your First step is the click the Start Button then go to RUN. When at the run prompt type in "msconfig" without the quotes of course, then hit OK.
You will get a new window open. Click on the "Startup" tab. You will be presented a list of items that automatically start with your computer. Some of them you may need, most of them you do not. What I generally have people do is uncheck EVERYTHING. Don't worry, your computer will still boot up. After you uncheck everything then reboot your computer. After reboot your computer WILL start faster however you will notice that some things you use like chat are not running. Click on Start, Select run and type "msconfig" again. Then again go to the "startup tab" Scroll down until you see the program you want to start with your computer like "msn" Go ahead and check it. Then when you reboot again the program will automatically start when you boot.
2.Scan and Remove Spyware
Almost all computers the browse the internet gets Spyware. Even if you have a firewall and top of the line Antivirus. You still have spyware.
My recommendation for removing spyware is simple. A free program called spybot. Click Here to download Spybot. Be careful if you go search for the program yourself. There are a lot of programs that may harm your computer named spybot. I suggest clicking the link.
When you download the program, go ahead and install it. Accept all the defaults. After the program is started click UPDATE on the left, It will bring up a new window. Select one of the locations and click Continue. Then click Download. It will Update itself and then restart the program.
After SpyBot is restarted then click "Search & Destroy" at the left. Followed by "Check for Problems". The scan may take a while depending on how many files you have. When it is done it will say "Threats Found". Click the button that says "Fix Selected Problems".
Now your computer is free of spyware. Your almost there.
3.More Memory
Memory and hard drive space are different. Memory is a temporary storage for programs and files you have open. Hard drive space stores all your files that you have closed. When you open a program or file from your computer the file gets read from the hard drive and then put into memory. If you do not have enough memory then it will keep reading from your hard drive. Hard drives are a lot slower than memory.
Finding what time of memory you need is easy. Memory Finder
Click the memory Finder link, then click "Scan My Computer" . With Windows XP I recommend at least 1 GB of memory, with Vista home basic 2 gb. I would not recommend installing the memory yourself unless you have experience or someone to guide you through it.
With these three steps you can have your computer running faster. If those things seem complicated or you just don't have the time. Then call Computer Life Support, They offer unlimited computer support and hardware support with free 150 gb online backup for a very reasonable price. They will help you with all your computer needs. Visit their website Here:Computer Repair
