Unwanted Warts

The warts commonly seen on the skin are caused by a viral infection. The cause is one of the HPVs (human papillomaviruses) that can be spread from person to person or be acquired through contact with a contaminated surface. They are removed through many ways, including a safe, natural and permanent removal method as suggested by Chris Gibson, an alternative health and wellness expert in his book.

Over 100 types of HPVs have been identified that infect skin or mucous membranes, depending on the virus type. HPV types that infect skin lead to the development of common skin warts.  Most common of these warts are hand warts, foot warts or plantar warts, most common among adolescents. Another common wart is the flat warts which are smaller and smoother and grow in large numbers most often on the legs of women, faces of children and young adult males.

HPVs have gained extensive attention these past years because of their proven role in the development of genital and anal cancers, particularly cancer of cervix, infections on the genital areas, and factor to the development head and neck cancers that develop in the area of the tonsils.

Common Ways to Remove Warts

Over the Counter treatments

Many drugstore wart treatments are available that remove hand and foot warts. These products come in the form of lotions, ointments or plasters. They work by removing the skin affected by a wart virus. After treatment, the skin and wart simply drop off. These products must be used with care. The chemicals they contain are quite strong and can affect healthy skin as well as infected skin. People with diabetes or heart conditions should not use these products.

These treatments are Salicylic based designed for all kinds of warts of any size. Salicylic acid is a keratolytic, which means it dissolves the protein (keratin), which makes up most of both the wart and the thick layer of dead skin that often tops it. It is recommended not to use salicylic acid on sensitive areas like the face or groin. It can make nearby skin raw and uncomfortable. This is the limitation that is overcome in the simple step by step method suggested by Chris Gibson in his guide on how to remove warts.

Non-prescription Drugs

Non-prescription drugs can cause the skin to become saturated with water. The skin layer peels off, taking the wart virus with it. Flat wart remedies can take as long as 3 months to work, depending on the size of the wart.

Moist patches are often the easiest products to use. They are placed on a wart for forty-eight hours, then replaced. The patch may irritate the skin. In this case, switching to a milder medication or stopping treatment for a while is necessary.

Professional Treatment

First,is electrocautery. In this method an electric needle is used to burn the wart. The tissue around the wart is killed and can be peeled off, taking the wart with it.

Second method is Laser surgery which works in a similar way to the first, burning and then peeling off the wart.

Another method involves the use of strong chemicals. The use of these chemicals is often effective, but they may produce some burning and discomfort for a few days.

A fourth is cryosurgery. Cryosurgery is the process by which tissue is frozen in temperatures to about 330° F (200°). This freezes the tissue then simply be removed. Healing usually occurs fast.

Genital warts are very difficult to treat. Any of the described methods can be used. But it may not be possible to remove the warts, because the virus may survive under the skin.

Alternative Treatments

There have been a number of alternative treatments recommended for wart removal. Many of these are actually still inconclusive in terms of their claims and effectiveness. The following suggestions are not to be applied for genital warts which only doctors should treat.

For the treatment of common or plantar warts, alternative practitioners recommend the following remedies:

- Tape a piece of banana peel on the wart over night, with the inner side of the peel touching the skin. Repeat nightly for one to two weeks.

- Place a crushed or sliced clove of garlic over the wart for seven consecutive nights while sleeping.
- Apply a paste made of vitamin C powder to the wart for one to two weeks.
- Soak the wart in water. Then make scratches in the wart with a sterile needle. Apply drops of thuja dissolved in alcohol to the wart. Repeat several times a day for one to two weeks.

Strengthening one's immune system is an objective of some forms of alternative treatment. A stronger immune system may be able to fight off the viruses that cause warts. A well-balanced diet rich in vitamins A, C, and E may help strengthen the immune system. Avoiding stress is thought to be another way of strengthening the immune system.

The strengthening of the immune system is one of the things included in a guide on the safe and natural removal of warts by Chris Gibson, a leading expert on alternative health and wellness, plus other effective safe methods that will permanently remove stubborn warts and other skin problems.
