Kidney diet also contains potassium which is found in most fruits, vegetables and dairy products. Failure of kidney causes a build up of potassium in the blood. Conversely, too little potassium can cause pains in the muscles especially the heart. Additionally, proteins are needed in kidney diet to build body muscles, perform body tissue repair and prevent infections. Moreover, proteins in kidney diet are used to replace lost proteins as a result of dialysis and prevent malnutrition.
These are found in most foods; precisely animal products and most food grains such as beans. Calories are useful for their rich supply of energy and maintenance of body weight. They are found in virtually all food items. However, they should be maintained at the right levels. Maintaining a proper kidney diet can be a challenging task to observe. It is therefore prudent to consult a qualified dietitian who can provide information on ways to use kidney diet. Dietitians are also able to give a personalized diet that is specific to an individual.

The failure to observe these dietary guidelines can lead to a host of kidney diseases. Any disease that affects the normal functioning of the kidneys can be detrimental to the general health of an individual. However, some of them may result from other causes other than poor adherence to kidney diet.

These causes range from bacteria to kidney blockage, diabetes to hypertension, hereditary disorders to lifestyle choices; the causes are just numerous. Kidney stone is the most common disease that results from poor kidney diet. Kidneys are responsible for the vital function of blood purification among other roles. It is therefore imperative that proper kidney diet is observed at all times to keep kidney diseases at bay.
