Energy Conservation, My Passion.

Energy saving tips for the home.

Renewable energy has to be, and is the future. Most of us never really give Renewable energy a thought, and take it for granted that when we plug a device into a power socket, there will be a never ending supply of energy on tap. The reality is, that our convenient 24/7 supply of power is in real danger of becoming a 'will O the wisp', a, 'catch it if you can', and as elusive as the Scarlet Pimpernel.
The world of 50 ears from now will be a very different place from the world today, where power may only be supplied to the elite few who can afford it. This may be a drastic over the top scenario, but unless governments really get their fingers out, and seriously go down the renewable energy route, the above scenario will not seem so far fetched.
We can all make a huge difference in the short term, as individuals, by the very simple and easy step of practicing energy conservation in our homes. I.e.: Make sure, if you don't have double glazing, or even if you do, that your window frames seal properly; Also check all external doors for drafts; Fit energy saving light bulbs. Here in the U.K there are some great deals on at the moment. We bought energy savers, 5 for £0.50p, in Dunelm the other day; Turn your heating down in the winter by a couple of degrees; If you have a clothes line, use that, and not the tumble dryer. Whilst my wife was away recently, visiting her parents, being a guy, I was too lazy to hang the washing out, so I put the clothes horse up in the kitchen, and dried my washing on that. I realise that if you have a large family, then that would be impractical. When I was young, I do still remember, we had a clothes airer that was let down from the ceiling, and was pretty well the length of the kitchen. I do believe that they are still available today. So if you have a big enough kitchen? But be sure to screw the fixings into joists, otherwise it could be very embarrassing when you go to hang your first lot of washing, unless you have a concrete ceiling of course. So there you are, just a few energy conservation tips to be going on with.
Below, I've added a few YouTube energy saving tip vids. I do love YouTube, as those of you who have visited my Renewable DIY energy blog will certainly know.
