Well, I finally made the switch from Netflix to Blockbuster Total Access to rent movies on the internet.

I've been a big fan of renting movies online every since Netflix introduced the idea of being able to rent movies on the internet almost a decade ago. Often times, finding a decent selection of DVD movies at a rental store is rather difficult. Netflix entered the scene with their online rental service and really revolutionized the way we rent movies- at home in our underwear!

Is Blockbuster or Netflix the best way to rent movies online?

Competition is a beautiful thing.

Shortly after online movie rentals became popular, Blockbuster realized they really had to step it up if they wanted to remain relevant in the movie rental business. The days of easy money and endless customers coming through their doors to pick out movies and buy overpriced snacks were certainly nearing an end.

But what could they do about it? Well, as we all know, the old saying is "if you can't beat them, join them." Well I guess that doesn't really apply here, because in my opinion Blockbuster has beat them- for now.

But that is the beauty of competition and free markets. As long as we, the customers let them know what we want and what we are not willing to put up with, whichever company meets our needs best gets our hard earned dollars and everyone wins.

And guess what? If Blockbuster starts acting up or stops providing the most valuable service for the money, I certainly am aware that I have the power to switch back!

Why do I rent movies on the internet?

Here are some of the many benefits of using Blockbuster Total Access to rent DVDs online:

Over 85,000 DVD titles to choose from, without ever leaving my house WITH the benefit of returning them to my local Blockbuster for an exchange.

So if I have company coming over TONIGHT and want to grab a few movies, I don't HAVE to wait for new ones to come in the mail if I have already watched the movies I have out. I simply make a quick trip to the local store and exchange them.

I am now also able to DOWNLOAD MOVIES DIRECTLY to my computer. They offer this in two ways, you can either rent the downloads(they expire after a set amount of time) or you can purchase them. Talk about IMMEDIATE gratification!

Love movies and love your lens. I'm making a new lens on how to make residual income off cell phones. Hope to have it done soon. I wish you amazing success in the lens world.

in reply to allinfoisfree Yeah, not all of the local stores are participating yet, but luckily mine is :)

You're right, Blockbuster Total Access is $3/month more than Netflix. But being able to exchange 5 movies a month at my local Blockbuster makes it more than worth it.

Hopefully your store will start participating soon!

We live around the corner from a Blockbuster, so I'll check this out. I have about 300 DVDs in my library, so I usually end up watching my own stuff.

Our local Block Buster doesn't participate in the online scenerio, so I was told. Also, judging by the prices it seems like Netflix is cheaper. I'm still on the fence about this stuff.

nice lens, Frank - I rated it.
speaking of movie rentals - I was wondering what's your opinion on Movie Cube? That's what I use to rent movies and I quite like it - it's cheap, no line ups... well it's not exactly online but so what :)
