Renters Insurance - What Is Renters Insurance And Why Do You Need It?

Renters Insurance is something of a confusing topic but one thing is for sure, it doesn't matter whether you are renting a house, apartment, car or some type of machinery there is always a risk that it will get damaged or destroyed in some way. Often people rent things with the false belief that some other insurance plan they have will cover them.

Now many people believe that when they rent a property that they are automatically covered on the insurance of the landlord. Although the landlord will carry insurance, which he must by law, the only requirement is for it to cover the building structure in the vent of fire or damage for example.

To cover the replacement costs of property that is damaged or stolen it is renters insurance that the occupants need unless they can afford to pay out of their own pocket. Any damage caused to the property you are renting which is found to be due to negligence will also be payable.

There is in fact another reason to organizing renters insurance. If you consider that a person's welfare is the responsibility of the renter then any accident could result in expensive medical bills and even attorney's fees. This would be a problem for most people to pay ordinarily but for a small premium per month this particular aspect would no longer be of concern.

The same situation applies when you rent a car; if your own auto insurance does not cover the costs, then check to see if your credit card has a facility to pay for it otherwise you will need to arrange this separately. If you aren't covered under your own insurance or credit card then you could consider purchasing the collision damage waiver as it is a better option to pay about 7 to 13 dollars a day than 10,000 to 30,000 dollars to replace the rental car.

Rental insurance covers many areas and just about anything that can be rented can be insured even though this short article has only really mentioned the two most common. You should never dismiss obtaining rental insurance as accidents happen and whilst we may stomach the cost of our own personal belongings getting damaged, when the property belongs to someone else and they want it replaced, it is another matter entirely. How much you will pay will depend on many factors as with all types of insurance but you can guarantee that certain factors like location, company you decide to use and what your deductible is will all be relevant. Many companies offer renters insurance but don't use the first one you find, take your time and search for companies on the Internet and if your finances will stand it, arrange for a large deductible if you want to keep the insurance premium to a minimum.

Renters insurance is relatively cheap, most of the time less than $200 per year. It's definitely worth it. Could you afford to replace your computer, or all your stuff, tomorrow?

Also many landlords are mandating renters insurance, anyway, nowadays.
