Repair xBox 360 "Overheating" Problem
The problem with "Red Ring of Death" is your xBox game console is overheating. Here are some quick tips to get your xBox 360 up and running again.
If your xBox 360 is overheating and crashing on you all the time, try this simple trick:
Get your power supply up off the floor. Your power supply is the culprit, try to keep it cool by hanging in the air with a string or rope. This will help keeping your power supply cool.
Another thing you can do to keep the power supply cool is use a little fan. You can buy the fan at a local $.99 store. Keep the fan going near the power supply which will also keep it cool.
To keep the system cool, you might try a product like Nyko Intercooler. Intercooler snaps on to the back of the game consoles and keeps it cool with 3 fans. This might keep your game consoles from crashing. You can get the Intercooler for about $15 at Amazon.com.
If you are using surge protector of some kind, try plugging the power directly into the wall outlet. Poor quality surge protector is another reason the game box gets very hot.
Some people found that laying your xBox on the side helps keep the game console somewhat cool also. This keeps the ventilation clear of any debries.

Repair xBox 360 "Red Ring of Death" Problems
If your xBox 360 is doomed with flashing 3 "Red Ring of Death," that is not a very good sign and it needs repair right away.
However, you can try to revive your game box again using the famous "Towel Trick." I've done this and it works temporarily. I warn you though, this is a temporary fix and you should be careful and have a fire distinguisher near by, just in case.
First, turn the power off, take the game out, disconnect the network cable, and LEAVE the power cord on. Turn the power back on, get 3 or 4 towels and wrap the game box with it.
The trick is to get the game box really hot. The idea is to melt the soldering that may have cracked in the game box due to overheating. Leave it on for about 25~30 minutes. Take the towels off and let it cool down for about 15~20 minutes. You can use the fan if you like to cool it faster. Then try your system. If it works, great! If not, you definitely need a repair.
You can send it to Microsoft for repairs, but there is another company that does it much faster. Check them out at www.imxbox.com. They promise you'll get your system back within 24 hours. I never used them, but they seemed to be refutable.

Doing Your Own Repair on xBox 360 Red Ring of Death
Sending your game box for repair takes time and money and who wants to deal with that. Besides it could cost you up to $140 to get your game box fixed right away. If you send it back to Microsoft for repair, it could take up to 2-4 weeks! I heard some have waited for 6 weeks to get their game box back!If you don't have the patience or the time to wait that long and spend that kind of money, you could try to fix the xBox yourself. But, remember, if you try to fix it yourself and break the game box for good, you may not be entitled to the warranty services. So, decide wisely.
It you Google for fix xBox, you'll see whole bunch of listings, but the one I recommend is 3RedLightFix.com. Why? Because Gary, the owner of the site, is the very fist guy to wrote the Guide on Repairing the "Red Ring of Death" before any of the other copy cats showed up.
I bought and used this guide to fix my own game box when the towel trick no longer worked for me. When you Googled it back then, his guide was the only one that showed up on the results page, that's why I bought it. It worked for me then, and it will work for you today.
Gary recently uploaded bunch of online videos showing you how you fix your game box step-by-step. I wish I had that videos when I bought the guide. I'd fixed my game box much faster! You're lucky to have the new videos showing you exactly how to do it.
Gary will be there to help you if you need it, but you won't. It is so simple, anyone can do it. Besides, if you can't fix your game box or your game box completely dead beyond repair, you'll get "100% no questions asked money back gurantee." How cool is that?
The guide is $29.95(reduced to $24.95 for limited time) and you can download and watch the video fixing your game box the minute you purchase. You can be up and running in less than an hour! What are you waiting for? While you're reading this, you could be up and running.

More tips on overheating problems for your xBox 360:
Direct Quote from Scott Nichols of PC World...
"...SquareTrade reports a 16.4 percent failure rate for Xbox 360 consoles. This number is much lower than the 33 percent claimed by retailers such as Best Buy and GameStop/EB Games, however it is still significantly higher than the failure rate of its competing systems which sits in the 3-5 percent range.
Most people who have heard of system failures with the Xbox 360 will think of the infamous "Red Ring of Death" issue, in which three red lights on the front of the system light up and the system freezes and ceases working. However, according to the SquareTrade report, this issue accounts for only 60 percent of defective Xbox 360 systems. The report does not specify what accounts for the other 40 percent of hardware failures...."
To avoid xBox 360 overheating problems:
"Set the Xbox 360 system in a horizontal position. There is an air vent that is blocked if the system is standing vertically, and since most Xbox 360 problems revolve around overheating, you will need as many exposed air vents as possible. To go along with that, keep the system in a well insulated area. The air vents are useless if the system is held in a theater cabinet where air doesn't circulate, so keep the system in an open-air area.
Also, do not move the system while it is on. For some reason the Xbox 360 doesn't do well when moved, and will almost always create circular scratches on game discs when the system is moved while on. My last tip is to be wary of fake "Red Rings of Death." If the video cable for the system is not plugged in properly, then four red lights will light up. Don't worry, your system is fine. The actual "Red Ring of Death" is indicated by three red lights, so if you are getting four lights, then just make sure the video cable is plugged in properly and you should be fine."
Another user of xBox 360 found solutions to overheating problems this way...
"The Red Ring of Death is most commonly caused by the GPU overheating. I remedied this on my 360 by opening up the console and re-applying new thermal grease. It fixed the problem."
