Exceeded 2GB Maximum PST File Limit? What to Do When Your PST File Becomes Too Big & Unusable?
Have you exceeded the 2GB pst file size limit and can't access your Outlook emails any longer? Getting PST error messages even after you try to delete emails to reduce the size of your PST file? Unfortunately, once the PST file exceeds 2GB - it simply becomes corrupt.

The Over 2GB PST Maximum File Limit Problem
Is your pst file too big?
Microsoft Outlook 2002 and earlier versions limit the size of Personal Folders (PST) file to 2GB. The maximum PST size is 2GB, why Microsoft does this - who knows...
Whenever your PST file reaches or exceeds this limit, you will not be able to use the .pst or .ost file. Once the folder size reaches or goes beyond that size limit the file will not be usable even if you delete items.
These annoying 2GB PST file error messages are the result of what is called the oversized PST file problem. Typical scenario:

How You WON'T Repair The Oversized PST
My Failed Attempts To Repair > 2GB PST File

First thing I thought to do was try to remove the bulk of data somehow from the PST file and compact it to reduce its size. So I tried using scanpst.exe (the offered Microsoft solution - Inbox Repair Tool). I wasted a good 30 minutes on that with no progress.
Secondly, I tried the MS Office Detect and Repair program but I still couldn't delete large files. Then, I tried to delete the contents of the "Sent" folder but still no luck.
Finally, I went back and searched the MS Knowledge base only to got referred to the scanpst.exe program again - which I ran already with no help! I felt I was going in circles...

- Stellar Outlook pst Repair worked great after nothing else would for my Outlook 2000 pst file >2GB. Took several hours to rebuild. One then needs Outlook 2003 or later to use the new file. Note cost is $129 which is billed afterwards. One purchases a one-machine, one-year subscription, which is not very accommodative to the end user. I found no way to determine the price/terms beforehand. They should have been upfront about cost and terms, it marred an otherwise excellent result.
