What you'll need:
- Tube of Baking Soda Toothpaste (not gel)
- A Lint-free Cloth (or eyeglasses cloth)
What to Do:
- Wet the DVD with warm water.
- Apply a small amount of toothpaste onto your lint free cloth.
- Starting from the center of the DVD, gently rub the cloth in a straight line directly to the outside edge. It is important that you do not rub the DVD in a circular motion. Also remember that you do not need to use a lot of pressure.
- Repeat 10-15 times. If you are trying to fix only one or two scratches then you should concentrate around the scratch and the close surrounding area. Otherwise attempt to do the whole DVD evenly
- Run warm water over the DVD to remove the toothpaste and plastic (that you have polished off)
- Allow to air dry completely before using
Note: This method is a quick fix for most scratches but should not be used too often (manually). Eventually the DVD will become too uneven from hand polishing to be useful. For even re-surfacing you will need a machine
How to Repair a Scratched DVD Perfectly
I've ruined a few DVD's and games in the past and it's a real pain to have to replace them. Even though using the toothpaste method is a quick fix your best bet is to invest in a machine that will repair your DVD's evenly, quickly, and return them to perfect condition.
I use the Skip Doctor Automax.

Repairing Scratched DVD's has Never been Easier
Having the SkipDR makes watching DVD's a lot less frustrating and repairing scratched DVD's a lot easier.Imagine it. You decide on a whim to watch a movie you haven't seen in awhile. You open the case and discover that it's pretty badly scratched. No problem, you just plug it into the SkipDR sitting conveniently beside your movies and in a few minutes that DVD is just like new!
You can watch your movie and know that you've fixed it for later viewing as well. I've paid more for a movie (usually a replacement) than I did for the SkipDR.
