Coco Chanel

The House of Chanel was founded by Coco Bonheur Chanel. She started her fashion career in 1910 before that she was a café and concert singer. She heralded new designs and revolutionized the fashion industry by going "back to basics," incorporating elegance, class, and originality. Under her tight reign from 1910-1971, Coco Chanel held the title as 'Chief Designer' until her death on January 10, 1971.

From 1910-1928
In 1910, House of Chanel opened its first ever shop, under the name of 'Chanel Modes' to manufacture hats. Chanel hats were worn by famous French artist, which helped a lot to become a brand name in fashion industry. In 1913, Chanel introduced its collection of sportswear for women at her new boutique in Deauville, France. New line of Chanel jerseys clothing completely changed the lifestyle of women.

In 1915, her fashion designs became immense popular throughout France, then she opened her first couture house in Biarritz, France to launch her other clothing line.

The first Chanel perfume known as No. 5 was introduced in 1921. It became very popular and on international level and specially welcomed by the ladies of upper class. In this era, No.5 perfume commands the highest sales in history.
    
The first Chanel costume jewelry collection was introduced In 1924. It was known to be one of the most revolutionary designed jewelry of all time."

"Little black dress" was introduced in 1928 by Chanel. The little black dress was the reply to every "What should I wear to..." question from night club parties to social activities to class get-together.

From 1935-till now
In 1932, Chanel organized a remarkable exhibition of fine jewelry dedicated to the diamond, featuring marvelous designs which very popular for their uniqueness, simplicity and quality.

In 1935, the House of Chanel reached the crest of its reputation when she hired 4,000 workers and owned several buildings throughout France.

Coco Bonheur Chanel announced her retirement in 1939 from fashion design and closed her popular couture house. Her retirement leads protests from New York upper crust to the Parisian nobility.

At the age of 71, Chanel came back to fashion industry seen and re-opened its popular couture house. In 1955, Chanel launched newly designed bag with the shoulder strap known as "Quilted bag". In first year, quilted bags got unbelievable response; because of huge demand Chanel had to turn down plenty of orders due to the lack its availability. During same year, Chanel began manufacturing of its first "eau de toilette" for men, Pour Monsieur.

In 1957, Coco Chanel received Fashion Oscar in Dallas Fashion Awards for her spring collection. Whole fashion industry praised her as the 'By far the leading fashion designer of the twentieth century.' In 1970, Chanel presented a new perform to the fashion industry by the name of No. 19.

Coco Chanel died on January 10, 1971 which ended an era of revolutionary fashion.

In 1974, the House of Chanel introduced Cristalle eau de toilette. In 1978, Chanel launched its first non-couture line and worldwide division of accessories. In 1981, Chanel started manufacturing a new "eau de toilette" for men, Antaeus.

Since its establishment, the House of Chanel has been known as worldwide leader in fashion accessories and apparel collection. Chanel collection offers a huge range of fashion products such as handbags, sunglasses, purses, hats, belts, costume jewelry, shoes, sneakers, perfumes and lot more.  


The Chanel Logo
The trademark Chanel logo is an overlapping double 'C' - one facing forward and the other facing backward. Concept of this logo was derived from the name Coco Chanel. "Coco" is the nickname of Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel.
