Residual Income Online - More Than Just a Dream

Earning residual income online may seem like a dream (and a great way to make some extra money in college) or fairytale when you first think of it.  The very concept of earning money while you sleep is foreign.  With all of the websites and late night advertisements out there toting a quick fix it is hard to believe that there is something out there that isn't a scam but there is.  There are a lot of options in fact.  You just need to know where to look.  Having tried my hand at various ways to make a buck on the internet, I have compiled all of the knowledge that I have learned.  I have found that diversity important, but over-diversification can be brutal.  If you over diversify, you may not make any money at all.  You should research several options before you join, and after you join you should stick with it until it works or you are positive it won't work.  You can't just expect to make money online without covering a lot of ground and putting in a lot of work.

Writing for Residuals

The easiest way to see some quick returns is to start submitting articles to sites that offer revenue sharing or PPV (pay per view) programs. Many people are afraid to submit their writing for fear that it will be inadequate or unprofessional. Most article submission sites have very supportive community forums. In these forums the writer can get feedback and ideas from more experienced writers. A great article submission website is Ehow. They have a very easy to use format and you can pump out a ton of articles if you put your mind to it. Another option would be right here on Squidoo. Squidoo offers you the opportunity to build mini webpages and gain profit from a different structure. In order to start earning some major residual income online, you will have to diversify and join several programs to fully realize the potential of residual income online.

Writing Sites That Pay Residual Income Online

Ehow
Ehow is huge. This is where you want to start. It is within the top 200 websites on the internet for traffic. Also, their revenue sharing program is unmatched. (Learn How to Make Money with Ehow)

Triond pays per view as well. They pay a little less per view but you get a good amount of traffic. They also will make a monthly payout when your account reaches fifty cents so you won't have to wait for your first payout.

HubPages
I have never used Hub Pages but I hear good things.
Squidoo
Although I joined a while ago, I have just recently started using Squidoo. I love it. It is like creating little websites to host your affiliate links and participate in some revenue sharing.
Associated Content
Associated Content is another article hosting site. They pay fairly well.
Helium
Helium is another site that pays, but I have yet to use it myself.
Suite101
Suite101 is another site that pays, but I have yet to use it myself.
LIfe123
Life123 is no longer accepting writers. They will be paying out the $20 maximum to anyone that has posted their work on the site. Makes you wish you had submitted some articles, huh?
Constant Content
Constant Content is a site where their customers search for a specific topic, and if an article strikes their fancy, they buy usage rights or full rights from you. You set your own price, so this could range from $20 to $100. I just started writing there so I will let you know how it goes. Read a review here

Supplement Your Writing

After you have written an article, sometimes the site you are writing for will allow for resources either in the center or at the end of the article. In this section you wil be able to provide links to products and services that are related to the topic of your article. Make sure that these links are related and that your article isn't based entirely around selling a product because that is considered spam, and could get your article deleted.

Affiliate Networks

I recommend joining more than one affiliate network because it gives you more choices when choosing who to link to.
LinkShare
LinkShare is an established affiliate network with a lot of different clients for you to choose from.
Commission Junction
Commission Junction is another affiliate network that offers a great deal of companies to promote.
Pepperjam Network
I haven't had much interaction with the Pepperjam Network, but they have a good interface and offer a decent amount of programs.
Click Bank
Click Bank is an affiliate network that only offers digital products. I had a hard time advertising for these because I found a lot of the products to be scams, not all of them though.

Photography Royalties

Provide More Opportunities to Earn Residual Income Online

If you're not a writer, then perhaps you are handy with a camera. See a sunset or a bird? Take a picture and host it on several of the microstock sites that pay. You will want to host your photography on several of the available microstock sites because you want to increase your exposure. Just make sure that all of the sites that you are posting your pictures to allows you to utilize other microstock sites. You don't want to get kicked off of a site.

If you aren't a good photographer, but are a good artist (or can create clip-art), you can still post your clip-art on these microstock sites.

Residual Income Online with Paid Online Surveys

Earn Residual Income With Online Survey SitesGetting paid to share your opinion is one of the easiest ways to make money online. You won't get rich doing this, but you can make about $8.00 per hour if you are diligent. If you are looking for a little extra spending cash, this could be the way to go. My favorite survey site is Opinion Outpost, but here are the Top 5 Paid Online Survey Sites.

Playing Online Games

Seriously

You can actually make a good amount of money by playing online games through the website Moola. The idea is that you are given a penny and challenged to double it 30 times. While this might not seem like much, it adds up to be over ten million dollars. You can only join the website by invitation, but there are tons of available invitations on the web. This concept was so interesting to me that I built my first Squidoo page around it. You can read more about Moola here.

Website Creation

A website is the culmination of all the services listed above. You can earn online residual income using all of your acquired skills. Affiliate links and Adsense revenue are what drives most websites if they don't have a product or membership to sell. Starting a website can be very lucrative, but it is also very hard. You have to do a lot of work just to get it found. And when it is found, people may not like it. If you have been writing articles online then you will have a shortcut to your website promotion efforts. You can put backlinks to your website through your online writing and give your website a quick boost in the Google rankings. Learn How to Increase Website Profit

Website Creation Software

Here are some links to easy website creation software sites.
Site Build It
I have never used SBI but have heard some good things about it.
Homestead Website Creator
I have used Homestead to create several sites. You can build some really nice looking sites for cheap.

Monetizing a Website

There are different ways to make money from your website. You can focus soley on the affiliate programs mentioned above, or you can diversify and add some advertisements to your website. The most highly used program in website advertisement is Google Adsense. This is a great program but should be supplemented by Chitika. Chitika is a good program because it is search based rather than being based on content. It also has a picture generated with the ad so it catches the visitor's eye.
