Resistance 2 vs Killzone 2

Two of the biggest FPS (First Person Shooter) on the Playstation 3 at the moment are Resistance 2 and Killzone 2. One of the things that make these titles good to compare are that they are both Playstation 3 exclusives. I was originally going to compare Killzone 2 with Gears of Wars 2 (an XBox360 exclusive) but since their is enough fanboy debates on the internet I thought it would be better to compare exclusives for one system.

Resistance 2 has been out a few months now and has already gained a nice following, it is the follow up to another Playstation 3 exclusive, that being Resistance: Fall of Man and it follows on from where Resistance: Fall of Man left off.

Killzone 2 is due for realease at the back end of February 2009 and is surrounded by more hype than Metal Gear Solid 4, if that is at all possible. Unlike Resistance 2 though it is not a follow up to a Playstation 3 exclusive but it is a follow up to a Playstation exclusive as the last Killzone was a Playstation 2 exclusive.

Your Views

Since this is a debate unlike other biased views on either game it is up to you the reader to tell other people why you think one of these two games is better than the other. Of course both will have features that beat the other so if you like you can offer views for both games.

The only thing I ask is that you keep it clean, any rude comments will be deleted.

Resistance 2

DimeBagHero says:

Resistance 2's single player was decent to say the least. The competitive multiplayer is solid but the co-op multiplayer is what's having me come back to the game even a year after its release. Killzone's 2 single player was a bit better than Resistance 2's and the online multiplayer (Warzone) is pretty good too. The real heavy controls ruined the experience for me. It's pretty hard to recommend a game when the controls aren't there. I recommend Resistance 2. =)

Atay says:

Resistance 2 is better hands down. I've played both and trust me Resistance will keep at the edge of your seat more thaqn Killzone 2 because you'll won't know what to expexct in R2

anthony says:

not the best online play. if they could work on it and turn into a but more halo 3 like from the x-box 360. but the campaign is very spectacular with the monsters you must fight.

jack says:

I say buy both they both look similar

Sam says:

EVery PS3 owner is going to buy the two games at some point. I say, buy Resistance 2 first, beat the story, play online, and then buy Killzone 2. Its a way better solution. BTW, i only put Resistance 2 down because i had to put something down

Andhil says:

Resistance has a decent matchmaking system. If someone leaves, they're gone, while Killzone possibly has the worst matchmaking sytem ever. I spent at least 3 hours of wasted game time in games which for which I did not even get my rewards because "oh my, Game host not available. You got screwed. Too bad" That by itself proved that Resistance is the better game, It's not all about graphics, Kz2 looks good, but the online gameplay just sucks.

Crooner29 says:

I have both games. It's true the KZ2 has better graphics, but R2 engaged me more, especially the multiplayer coop. The multiplayer coop made a huge difference. I definitely prefer R2.

Cole says:

resistance 2 has 60 people online which is total madness and in all the games everyone seems to converge on 1 spot in the map. In resistance 2's co-op you can play with 8 people and you rely on each other. there is a medic, a spec ops, and a soldier. it is so fun that i think r2 is the best game ive ever played. killzone 2 is fun but the single player is bad. the multiplayer is good though.

so r2 has coop, great single player, and an amazing online.
kz2 has great multiplayer.

i think r2 wins

miggity Mo says:

REsistance had a way better single player campaign!!!

Sam Murphy says:

In terms of the single-player campaign, k2 rapes r2. Better graphics, more intense but ... r2's 8-player co-op and 28 extra players online are just enough to outshine k2. I own both games by the way. If there was an option it would be a draw for me though but I thought hard about it.

labrat says:

got bored of killzone real quick

Krisky says:

KZ2 has the best graphics ever, but the most boring and repetitive gameplay ever!!!!! Shooting the same people with almost similar atmosphere maps. For me KZ2 feels like another counter strike ripoff

Auser says:

Resistance 2 doesn't have input lag

joe says:

when i play a fps i like to feel control R2 gives me that KZ2 dosent R2 has a lot more features like co-op a party system ,60 player battles, split sreen online you know more bang for your bucks lol

koko says:

I played Killzone 2, what a short campaign.. it truly does deliver exceptional visuals and such.. but R2 dOES HAVE BETTER WORLD DESIGN. Simply i played online for both.. and guess what, R2 NAILED KZ2.. its just simply cause KZ2 is such a boring repetitive online play.. i stopped playing it after i reached after the update rank.. smeh, i cant be bothered playing it anymore.. I just dont get the feel of a true online play with kz2.. R2 is way much better in my opinion, and it has long lasting value than KZ2

U will understand, once uve played kz2 online long enough that is basically a NO-SKILL ONLINE GAME.. u just shoot, spray, wish some people DIE with GRENADES SPAM

yo says:

resistce 2 online is just the best i have ver played so for me re2 wins , i mean that the online makes a game cus is like the replay value, every game has a story and in the end that story becomes boring i doesnt matter witch game so ill go for resistance online is just AWESOME

Arizona-Snow says:

Now I have played both games I can honestly say that Resistance 2 is way better than Killzone 2. Killzone 2 might have real nice graphics but so does Resistance 2. Resistance 2 has a better selection of monsters - all the ones in Killzone 2 appear to be the same they just carry different guns. Resistance 2 also has better weapons.

Since I despise online competitive modes Resistance 2 wipes the floor with Killzone 2 as Killzone 2 doesn't have an online co-operative mode which basically for this type of games sucks.

Overall I got about 18 hours playtime out of Killzone 2 and will not go back to it again whilst on Resistance 2 I clocked over 50 hours and I am planning to go back to playing it when I have time (too many new games to play at the moment).

Arizona-Snow says:

Well some1 has gotta stick up for Resistance 2, so it may as well be me.

I tried the Killzone 2 demo and didn't really like it even though a demo shouldn't be anything to go by.

I'm currently playing Resistance 2 and enjoying the online co-op a mode that I hear Killzone 2 doesn't have (but I do hear that one will be patched in).

Killzone 2

joebob says:

i owned resistance 2 killzone 2 owns it get killzone 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mitchell says:

Killzone 2 is much better I found Resistance 2 so overrated and in a way a step back from the first one in Graphics and Gameplay and feel kinda like Halo and Halo 2 lets hope the third Reistance is what Halo 3 was the best from both 1 and 2 but Killzone 2 I found much better in gameplay and graphics and also online was much challenging where Resistance made it up for more players than anything else

Marc says:

The MP in Killzone 2 as been taken more seriously by the community than Resistance 2. That make the game more worst than Killzone 2. I play for serious gaming, I won't likw to play agaisnt child again!

gio says:

killzone 2 has better graphics better online( my opinion) and just has a fun feel to it. note ,if you are a cod 4 fan u might not like the slow turning and aiming at first but you will get used to it. i own both games

the_lumberjack87 says:

resistance 2 has a busted matchmaking system and NO ONE uses their mics. IN KZ2 people actually talk AND the matchmaking is great! KZ2 FTW

anthony says:

very good campaign mode but a little short and not enough large fights between heavies and other bosses. the online play is also very good except for the ranking system. it is very easy to gain levels until you get to general then it starts to become a challenge.

bob says:

resistance2 was indeed fun with the campaign, and even though they did everything with multiplayer, i still hated the online play

MIGHTY TERMITE says:

i say: killzone 2 has much more polish in visuals and in game play itself. however resistance two has a grander scale feel to it, the bosses are giagantic, the weapons still have dual functionality but the game seems to lack the quality that killzone 2 captures. one of the things that really impressed me about killzone 2 was the way the explosive containers would move in accordance to the angle they where shot and pierced at. as the pressure is released from the shot container it moves in the opposite direct from where it is pierced at instead of just exploding like most other games do. another thing i noticed about killzone 2 is the wind affects. in one level later in the game i doused an enemy with a flamethrower and as the enemy started to roll around on the ground in agony i noticed the flame was moving in the direction the wind was blowing. that really added a scense of wind presence. that kind of attention to detail demands recognition as one of the elite fps titles out in the console market. the online was cool on both systems i did enjoy the variety of levels online that resistance has to offer but both titles fell a little short online for me its probably because call of duty 4 is the best online game ever in my opinion so i cant help but compare every fps to it. over all killzone 2 in my opinion is simply a better game than resistance 2. see ya online --MIGHTY TERMITE--

Joe Bach says:

Bought R2, played it, couldn't get into it, didn't like it, took it back. Playing KZ2 now, liking it much more. KZ2 FTW.

SonyBoy says:

KILLZONE 2 = Awesome !!! killzone 2 I LOVE YOU !!!

jhon says:

R2 sux !!! killzone 2 is way better !!!

max says:

killzone 2 gonna kill R2 !!! killzone 2 rockzz

twitlook says:

Resistance 2 wiped the floor with Gears of War 2. Killzone 2 wipes the floor with both.

mark says:

killzone2 story is more realistic and multiplayer is going to be more tactical not only running and shooting

Erik says:

Killzone 2's graphics wipe the floor with Resistance's.

Freddyuk9 says:

I was in KZ2 beta and even then that made R2 loook like a 2nd rate game. and that was just a 459MB download, so the full game will make R2 loook like pong :P

This article was a good idea, comparing ps3 exclusives. Thoroughly enjoyed MGS4. Hated the controls on Little Big Planet, so I hated the game itself. Just didn't enjoy Resistance 2 for no apparent reason. Enjoying Killzone 2 much more.
