How to Make & Achieve Your New Year Resolutions & Goals

My New Year Resolutions

I have been making new year resolutions for a few years. I have always hope for good health, give myself a target on how much I wanted to save for the year and some silly resolutions like how many paintbrushes I wanted to collect in Neopets.

I have always believe that if I make those resolutions, write them down in a small piece of paper, put them into my purse, I will achieve some of them. Well, I have almost never achieve any silly resolutions with Neopets because I have quit playing. I have achieved my most wanted resolution of getting checks from Cafepress every month.

However, I have made a silly mistake with my resolution. I had made them every year, write them down and put it into my purse and never look at it until the next December comes along and it was time to make another one. It means that I have forgotten what I wanted to achieve every year and I did not work on my goals at all!

Now that I have mature (I hope I have), I will try to work on my resolution throughout the year.

My 2011 Resolutions and Goals

By the end of this year, 2011, I am going to...

  1. Owned at least 100 lenses. I am left with 10 more lenses to go.
  2. Receive a couple of hundreds every month from Spreadshirt.
  3. Start my weekly yoga at home to keep myself healthy. I got to go out and buy that Yoga book first.
  4. Get a day time job.
  5. Continue to write my gratitude journal throughout the year. The journal has helped me a lot in positive thinking and it is something really good for me.

How to Make Your Resolutions

CommitmentThe trick is to give your resolution some figures that you want to achieve.

I used to set resolutions like these:
1) I will write more lenses.
2) I will earn more money from Cafepress

The mistake was how much more lenses is more? How much more money do I want to earn from Cafepress? After I realize my mistakes, I gave myself some real figures to hit every year.

Set your Goals High

GoalsI did not give myself a low target to hit. I believe that if I set myself a higher target, at the end of the year, even if I do not hit my target number of lenses, I should be near to my target figure.

Do not a afraid to set your goals high. When you set your goals high and make yourself committed to it, you will find ways to achieve your goals. If you set your goals too low, you will start to procrastinate until the end of the year.

One of my goals in 2008 was to create 3000 new designs to be uploaded to Keepsake Arts. I have to admit that I did not hit my target. However, I have uploaded 2800 new designs. If I have not give myself such a high target, I dun think I will upload even 200 designs in 2008.

Write Down Your Goals

DeadlinesWell, you will have to keep reminding of yourself the reasons why you want to set each goals. Write down your goals and stick it some where where you can see it everyday.

If you want a goal badly enough, you will work harder on it. Think of a reason why you want to achieve your goals in the first place.

Give each goal a deadline. For example:
1) 50 lenses by the end of March
2) New designs for all my blogs and affiliate stores by the end of June
3) 20 galleries with Zazzle by the end of December.

Goals are so important. I hope you are achieving all that you have set out to accomplish!

When I make a resolution, I also make a plan on how I'm going to achieve that resolution. For instance, instead of just saying I'm going to lose weight, I made a weight loss plan. Instead of saying I'm going to get a job, I made a minimum number of applications to fill out each week. I think it helps because a step by step plan is easier that a huge goal.
