Teaching children respect

Respectful Rabbit teaches children that respect should be demonstrated towards all people, and emphasizes the old adage, "Treat others as you would like to be treated". It is important that children internalize that respect does not just come in one form. Respectful Rabbit helps children better understand what it means to be respectful, and that respect should be shown to more than just other human beings. On top of showing respect towards others, you should show respect towards the environment, belongings, and animals!

Characters of Character believes that reaching children at an early age is critical. Respect is one of nine character traits that our organization focuses on. Respect can be shown in more than just one way, and Characters of Character helps children to realize that, understand what respect means, and internalize respect. It is no surprise that old habits are hard to break. We focus on teaching respect at an early age, not only to allow children to show this trait from the start, but also because the earlier that the child internalizes the trait, the easier it becomes for them to show respect, and use respect, as they continue to mature and grow.

How to show respect

teaching respect

Someone once told me that their favorite character trait that we teach is respect. They believed that if someone had respect, all the other traits would follow easily. For example, if you respect yourself you will have confidence in your actions and if you are proud of who you are, you will be kind to others. So what are some ways that you can begin to teach children respect?

Respect the earth, pick up your trash.

Respect your body, get a good night's rest.

Respect your parents, don't throw a tantrum.

Respect yourself, do your very best.

Respect others, think before you speak.

Respect your toys, put them away when you are done playing with them.

Those are such a few example of ways to show respect. Don't wait, get started today by bringing respect to your household. But don't abuse the privilege of having someone respect you. Children learn from example and while it's important that they respect you, it is also important that you do the same to them.

Social and emotional learning tools

Let's Be Respectful! Children's bookRespectful Rabbit is a character that was created to help teach children respect, help children to understand what respect means, and help children to internalize respect. This friendly character gives children a creative outlet while building character in themselves.

Characters of Character has created a unique, friendly, and engaging way to reach children through the use of our nine characters. While building character in children, in this case respect, our organization is also helping children develop skills such as social and decision making. Respectful Rabbit also allows children to establish an emotional connection, one that may have not been created before.

Respectful Rabbit helps children to internalize a valuable character trait, without children feeling like it is mandatory of them. Learning should be fun, not something that children dread. Respectful Rabbit provides children with an outlet to express themselves, while internalizing a very valuable trait. Through various tools and resources, our Character helps children internalize respect while helping to develop social skills, emotional skills, and so much more.

Respect is earned!

"Many adults assume that respect is something that is simply given to them. That isn't true. Respect is something that is EARNED, not given. But that doesn't give anyone the right to be rude or inconsiderate, you should still show respect towards everyone and everything." Respectful Rabbit
