Teaching children to be responsible

Responsible Rabbit teaches children that being responsible is part of being a good friend, family member, and citizen to your community. It is critical that children learn what it means to be responsible at an early age, especially taking responsibility for their own actions. If a child gets away with something there is a good chance that they will continue misbehaving, because they will believe that there are no consequences for their actions. Responsible Rabbit is a fun and engaging way for a child to understand the importance of responsibility. We all make mistakes, but it is important that we admit to them, learn from them, and accept the consequences of our actions even though it may not be enjoyable.

What does being responsible mean?

Responsible Rabbit helps teach children what responsibility means.

There isn't just a single way to be a responsible or only one object that you are responsible for. However, if we are talking about teaching responsibility to children we need to start small. What does being responsible mean? Obviously a two year old wouldn't know or understand being responsible for your own finances.

So start somewhere that children would understand.

Be responsible for your own actions, tell the truth. No matter how difficult it might seem you need to be responsible by not lying.

Be responsible for your body and brush your teeth at least twice a day, eat healthy foods, and exercise.

Be responsible for your grades. Do your best and be proud of it.

Be responsible for your pets. If you wanted a puppy and your parents got that for you, take care of it. Make sure that you clean up after your pet and that your pet is always provided for.

These are simple things to begin with. Do you teach responsibility in your own household or classroom? If you want to teach a child about responsibility, the best way is to teach it by acting. If you are in a classroom, give each student a small task to complete daily. If you are at home, give the child chores that they can do on their own.

Remember, rewarding someone is a positive reinforcement that makes them proud in their actions. It doesn't have to be something big, even a sticker would do. Get the child excited about being responsible, it will have a more positive impact and they will want to continue using this character trait all the time.

Products to help teach responsibility

As our organization continues to meet more parents, educators, and children we continued to adapt our product line to meet the needs of those most interested in teaching the traits that we focus on. What started off as a character education program intended for educators, has turned into a full product line that everyone can use. Whether you are a parent looking to focus on responsibility at home, a teacher trying to teach responsibility in the classroom, or just someone looking to help children grow up to be more responsible, we have inexpensive, and effective, products that can help you do so. We provide the tools that you need, but these traits cannot successfully be instilled into children without your guidance. Please remember that we are always adding new materials to our online store, and all of your purchases help our organization continue to run effectively. Your support is greatly appreciated.

We need your help!

Without your suggestions, we would be lost in knowing what products people benefit the most from. Is there a specific product that you would find most useful to teach responsibility? If you choose others, please indicate what product you're thinking of so that we can work to create resources that would be most effective. Also, if you have a specific setting in mind (i.e. school, home, bedroom) please leave that in the comments section in this poll as well. Thank you!
