Running a successful restaurant

Ok, the truth is, there is no secret. There is, however, a right way and a wrong way to go about running your restaurant.

But secrets? Anything you need to know can be found online or at your local library. It's not a secret, but it is a lot of work.

Watching the NFL on Sunday, I've learned many of the "secrets" to being a successful quarterback. Does that mean I could walk out on the field and start playing at that position? Not even in my prime.

Having head knowledge, while very important, is not nearly enough. It takes years of dedication, practice, and hard work to be a success at anything.

For the restaurant world, that means doing your homework before you get opened; writing your business plan, choosing the right location, having the right financing. After your opened it means cost control, and good leadership skills, and being excellent at customer relations. Oh yeah, you also need great food.

Running a successful restaurant means day in and day out paying attention to the details that will either earn, or cost you money. When you tend to the details, you put your business in a position that it can be successful.
