Well? You got this far. Congratulations! Now it's your turn.

Don't be shy! You've earned it!

From the lens Historic, Vintage & Reproduction Home Decorating Fabrics Glossary.

Are you a fabric addict? A textile design student? An old house nut? A fellow "IDiot" (see Jersey Boys, above, if you don't know about ID)? A browsing cephalopod? A welcome friend or friendly foe? Please take a minute and tell us a bit about yourself and what you think of this lens.

Or leave us a wry comment to parenthesize at the end of an entry. Go ahead, try to tickle our funny bone enough to warrant inclusion of your pun or punchline in the above glossary. We'll even give you a credit if you'd like. C'mon. Even Letterman doesn't do that...

This lens impresses! You really know a lot about Home Decor Textile. I am not that enthusiastic, but I tried once to make batik with my friend. It was an unforgettable experience! I don't know if I would do this any more, but it was very exciting process.

I have had a love of fabric since I was a child. I am a lover of home interiors and feel homes should all be embellished with fabric, whether it's in the form of pillows, window treatments, table linens, bed linens....Great lens - awesome job!

Unbelievable lens! Amazing clarity and details. And so much I didn't know. I'll never forget the meaning of "beetling," thx to your vid on the Beatles and the line "everyone knows the Beatles can't be beat." LOL Excellent research & writing, images, vids and resources. Admittedly, I've only read (& watched the vids) on 1/2 the lens so far. Lots to take in and well worth it! I'll be back tomorrow for more!

This is a wonderful lens, one I will return to. I am writing about Victorian times and I can learn a lot here. I am getting inspired about how to dress to the Dickens Faire!

What an amazing lens. That sheep shearing video is so Australian. Had no idea there were so many types of fabric. It must be difficult to keep up with them all and certainly impossible, I would think, to have them all in one place. Great stuff

This lens / glossary of textiles and fabrics has very good descriptions and to boot, it is educational. ( A mini - encyclopedia?)

I am one of those who can recognize what they like but know little about the subject. It usually turns out that what I like turns out to be the most expensive item. Anyway, what I was going to say is that what I do know is that tapestries were made to weavel a story, mythical or historical.
  • LiteraryMind Oct 8, 2011 @ 6:42 pm | delete
What a great resource. It looks as if you put a lot of work into this lens and it shows.

Wonderful lens. So much information. One of my most prized possessions is a set of Victorian curtains I picked up at a local barn sale for about $12. 10' tall panels with valance, all hand sewn. I love them so much and am so happy I stopped at that sale that day.
  • emmajo Sep 13, 2011 @ 3:39 pm | delete
What a wonderful lens! I am an actual tapestry weaver myself and worked for a time on the 'new' tapestries being woven at stirling castle, scotland which are a copy of the unicorn tapestries at the metropolitain museum , in newyork. so this is a fantastic lens and i'm going to bookmark it!!!

More info than I'll ever need about fabric! Wow, you covered it all (or most!).
  • nancycarol Aug 21, 2011 @ 1:49 pm | delete
I don't even sew, but I know when a fabric doesn't "feel" right to me...it's too thin, too slick, or just sleazy. When I shop for clothing, if the fabric doesn't have that good "feel" to my hand, it won't be bought by me. I'm no expert in any of these, but loved your definitions of some fabrics I'd wondered about. Great lens, and it deserves the purple star...must have taken you forever to do all this! Thanks for sharing.
  • LaraineRose Aug 18, 2011 @ 4:05 am | delete

What a comprehensive work! I used to be a fabric hound back in the olden days (LOL), but I'm long past the days of sewing, upholstering walls and creating all sorts of fabric-covered creations. You've really outdone yourself with the details and the presentation . . . worthy of a blessing!
  • Papier Aug 10, 2011 @ 12:10 am | delete
When i began making art in earnest I quit sewing, except for episodic spurts, and this lens takes me back to an earlier day. Great!

Thank you - I've been an "old house nut" all my life but it took me many years to actually be able to live in one! I appreciate the kind words and blessing.
  • ShirlW Jan 18, 2011 @ 6:37 pm | delete
Oh my goodness there is a lot of excellent info here! I loved, loved, loved the Summertime video. As far as fabric, I'm a toucher. When I see fine fabric, I have to reach out and touch it, I guess I have a "thing" for texture. Finally, I had the pleasure of seeing batik fabric being made in Jamaica many years ago. I bought a pair of shorts that I loved for many years, even after they shrunk and I couldn't wear them any more. OK I'm lying, they didn't shrink, I got bigger....but just a little.
  • ---Chazz Feb 8, 2011 @ 7:52 pm | delete
Thank you, Shirl. Fine fabric does have a different feel - especially the silks and velvets!
  • Interior Design Student Nov 13, 2010 @ 10:31 am | delete
